  Un cielo gris, lleno de nubes densas y oscuras, que impregnan a su paso todo el ambiente con un fuerte olor a combustibles fósiles quemados, es la antesala que acompaña al Doctor Dong Chang, en su caminata por las desoladas aceras que conducen al Instituto Superior de Entomología de China. Con un paso apresurado, el científico intenta llegar al edificio lo más rápido posible, para evitar ser impactado con los poderosos rayos UV, que se cuelan cada vez más, a través de la atmósfera terrestre, desde que el agujero en la capa de ozono se hizo insostenible.

  El olor horrendo del ambiente, ya es tan fuerte que se filtra incluso a través de las máscaras especiales y los pesados trajes de protección, que en este momento deben portar todos los habitantes. El calentamiento global llegó a su punto máximo en el año 2033, creando un cambio climático tan grave que sumió a todo el planeta en un efecto invernadero sostenido. Lamentablemente, la humanidad nunca logró entender la gravedad de las emisiones descontroladas de carbono que, destruyeron en dos décadas, las protecciones que ejercía la atmósfera terrestre.

  Un laboratorio solitario da la bienvenida a Chang. Este 31 de diciembre del año 2047, la mayoría de los científicos están intentando disfrutar lo poco que queda de la vida en sus hogares. Pero este Doctor, que ya no tiene nada que perder, porque su esposa falleció víctima del cáncer de piel, prefiere dedicar el tiempo que le queda, a intentar revertir la situación apocalíptica en que se encuentra el mundo.

  La última pandemia, conocida como la nueva enfermedad, continúa haciendo estragos en los países más pobres del Hemisferio Sur. Una noticia en especial llamó la atención del especialista, cuando le notificaron desde Costa Rica, sobre la aparición de una mutación en las abejas, las cuales, repentinamente, dejaron de hacer su labor de polinización, para empezar a consumir la carne de los miles de cadáveres que se arrumaban en las calles del país.

  Según relata el informe, un nuevo tipo de abejas surgió, probablemente se trate de una variedad mutada por los cambios en la atmósfera, o quizás, por la ausencia de fuentes naturales de alimentación, incluso es posible que estemos en presencia de una adaptación evolutiva para tratar de sobrevivir, pero lo cierto, es que estos insectos modificaron su dieta alimentaria de flores a carne humana descompuesta, como si de buitres carroñeros se tratara.

  El camión de transporte biológico, llega a las instalaciones del instituto para entregar la encomienda que el Doctor Chang ha estado esperando. Un contenedor con ejemplares vivos, de las abejas carnívoras procedentes de Costa Rica. Esta muestra le permitirá confirmar las terribles noticias, que podrían, además, suponer el fin completo de la polinización natural en unos pocos años y con ello, la extinción de las fuentes de alimento para la raza humana.

  Una pequeña abeja es extraída del contenedor, con todos los protocolos de seguridad que el caso amerita, al colocarla bajo el microscopio electrónico, el Doctor Chang confirma sus terribles sospechas. El insecto desarrolló una evolución para adaptarse al hábitat agresivo de su entorno, formando lo que parecieran ser pequeños dientes curvos, que le permiten desgarrar y consumir carne descompuesta, si esta aberración no se detiene a tiempo, los días de la raza humana en el planeta tierra pueden estar contados.

But this Doctor, who no longer has anything to lose because his wife died of skin cancer, prefers to devote his remaining time to try to reverse the apocalyptic situation in which the world finds itself.

   The latest pandemic, known as the new disease, continues to ravage the poorest countries in the Southern Hemisphere. One news item, in particular, caught the specialist's attention when he was notified from Costa Rica about the appearance of a mutation in bees, which suddenly stopped pollinating and began to consume the flesh of the thousands of corpses littering the country's streets.

   According to the report, a new type of bee emerged, probably a variety mutated by changes in the atmosphere, or perhaps by the absence of natural food sources, it is even possible that we are in the presence of an evolutionary adaptation to try to survive, but the truth is that these insects changed their diet from flowers to decomposed human flesh, as if they were scavenger vultures.

   The biological transport truck arrives at the institute's facilities to deliver the package that Dr. Chang has been waiting for. A container with live specimens of carnivorous bees from Costa Rica.
