Everything we consume is laced with sugar.
Depending on which side you’re on, you can think that sugar is evil and I’d like to think so too. But it’s not like we can escape from it as everything we consume and things that gets into our body has some type of “sugar”. Recently, I have been on a sugar binge from visiting a sweet tooth paradise to drinking copious amount of cappuccino and milk-based coffee. This week, I’ve been back on the roll, doing my best avoiding added sugar and trying to speed up my weight loss. While I have lost more than 20kg in the past 17 months, I need a little challenge and shock to how I run my life. As I discussed before, there’s something called “curse of comfy” and it’s time to shake things up and shock my system.
I got this wake up call the other day about my cafe visit when I realized I added baziliion sugar into my diet these past 2 weeks. And as I reached to my third cup of coffee, I ended up opting for americano. Americano is the safest bet when you’re visiting a cafe and wants all the perk but keeping it healthy. Obviously, always say without sugar because sometimes an ignorant barista would instantly add sugar inside of it. The worst part if it’s liquid sugar.
While I generally have a fixed diet lately where I consume everything in moderation, since going out a lot, I couldn’t control that aspect. I noticed a striking difference in terms of my energy levels as well as just overall feeling where I feel a lot more horrible due to the sugar that I had been consuming. But since I also enjoy exploring new drinks, going to cafe, I decided to go back to my previous schedule where in a week, I would check on 2 new places instead going daily as I’ve been these past few weeks.
Somehow, going daily ruined my experience too as I often feels everything gets too monotonous. This schedule was something I had the past few months and everything was going good. I discovered amazing places thanks to that habit since I tend to research thoroughly before even going there. I also enjoyed beautiful drinks like this more than when I used to have it too often.
Also December is the month where I love to start exploring places. I enjoy walking when it’s a lot colder and pleasant temperature. As you see some of my Wednesday walk post, as many events are also scattered all around the city and places, it’s really time to walk more and adding more steps into my life. While these days I am already good with moving and being active, I’d like to wander and getting lost in a new areas and place.
As I grew old and understand more about nutrition, weight loss and how it works, I am going on the safer side with goals like 6 pounds a month instead drastic 20 pounds/month change. From experiencing yo-yo diet and so many other diets that only made me gain weight, since committing to do a drastic and life changing lifestyle from the last two year, I was more satisfied with everything.
So far this bullet points of changes in my life.
📍I still consume rice in moderation
📍I have days where I still take sugar ( 2 days/week) or days when I have to be outside all day.
📍I walk daily for 30 minutes and only skipping when I overslept
📍I minimize buying food outside and cook for myself
📍I opt for cheaper produce than a fancy it girl diet style or menu.
While it’s not as fast as other people nor as impressive, I am happy that I was somewhat consistent with the basics such as moving more and eating less. It took me many years to reach this point in life where I am comfortable doing OMAD (one meal a day) long term and sometimes, Two meal a day; one is big meal and another is light snacks. I am also content that I can do this almost consistently without experiencing yo-yo or feeling unhappy about my food choices and the choices I made for my health.

Wow, reading this. I need to be inspired and do my exercise. I always have sugar with my coffee milk though.
I think that's fine as long as you have them in moderation unless you're like me drinking more than 4 cups of coffee a day haha
Omg, I only drink 2. haha!
It is true that sugar is a sneaky ingredient that can be found in many seemingly "healthy" foods and drinks. And it's great to read about your recent sugar binge and the subsequent realization of the negative effects it had on your energy levels and health.
Also, I'm glad to hear that you've also been consistent with your walking routine and have managed to maintain a healthy lifestyle despite the challenges of the "curse of comfy." Thank you for sharing
Yep, sometimes you need to cut back quickly before it gets worse
I'm reducing this sugar level, consuming a lot of sugar can make me fat
I don't think sugar alone can make us fat but it's always good to lower our sugar intake :)
Hello, I am a newbie here and upon exploring I found your blog.
I just wanna ask @macchiata if what diet meal can you recommend for those people like me who consumes sugar more than the recommended? Or like any workout/exercise tips aside from walking for 30 minutes?
I don't really have workout recommendation. What do you normally enjoy doing? for me it was walking and swimming but any movement is always helpful.
At the same time, what I eat is also pretty much bland and isn't something I'd recommend just because I like eating those. So, find what you truly love eating and have some sort of portion control. I really think the key has always been moderation.
You're right, @macchiata. Thanks🥰
This is not a good habit. A friend was affected by this but he didn't learn until he learnt his lessons
Can cooking for yourself really that bad? I mean, can't we control our meals and be wary of its ingredients if we are gonna cook? Just asking for advice, sir @the-lead. Since I also plan on cooking for myself.
Well it actually depends on an individual
It is a fact that we all love to eat ice cream and such sweet things but we should be careful because these days sugar is what every human being has, it is better if we want to live a good life. So this disease has to be avoided.
Yep! almost everything has sugar :)
This is inspiring! It is time to get serious with exercise. However the OMAD part sounds like an impossible mission to me🫣 but I will try
It's easy to get used to it when you do more than 3 months.
Yes! This is why we have more cavities 🦷 than we used to have in the previous generation. Gets harder to quit sugar because it’s everywhere.
Yep! I am amazed how older people still have their teeth intact compared to us lately. Not sure if there's data for it but would be nice to see.
I am not a big fan of sugary stuff. If possible, I'd like sugar taken off my diet, which is impossible as all we take as sugar in them.
You have done well with your schedule and keeping to them. Here in my country, eating once or twice a day is a normal thing.
