Another favorite day because we get to see the aunt! =) Chitchatting with her while eating her delicious Hakka food. Did I mention before that she is a Hakka, same as my mum, hence we can 'click'. Let's see what she cooked today!
One thing special about Hakka people, is they love to cook their food till very soft, and they love to cut the ingredients to smaller pieces or cubes.
Preserved Vege and Slices of Pork
This is called 'Mui Chou Kao Yok', supposedly using pork belly, but she said when she arrived at the stall, the pork belly was out of stock, left the part with tougher meat. Hence, she simmered this dish for good long hours till the vegetables became too soft, broken down and mushy. BUT, we still super loved it because I don't cook this dish.
Potatoes Stew with Chicken
She cooked this with her signature seasoning — sesame oil, which I also rarely used. She usually marinated the meat with a little soy sauce, pepper and corn/potato starch and sesame oil, kept in fridge for hours before cook. The meat was absolutely tasty.
Healthy Spinach Dish
This ain't another ordinary stiry fry like the one I always did, stir fry with garlic. She used the real chicken broth which she had boiled day before for hours, using chicken bones and chicken feet. No seasoning was needed, so it might be a little undertaste compared with restaurant standard but definitely very healthy. She then add in garlic and onions for the broth, lastly added in spinach. Super yummy!
.
That's a lot of food!
Enjoy...
