I love how monochrome makes almost everything look like it came from a bygone era. And of course if the subject matter is old stuff, that definitely adds to the effect.
I posted a few of these in color yesterday, and today I give them new life and an old look by reshaping them in monochrome.
Sometimes I share my monochrome pictures of old stuff with friends and family and ask them to guess when the photo was taken. They are on to me now, but for a while it was fun when they were guessing sometime in the Eisenhower administration.
I mostly like my phone’s “silver tone” filter. It seems softer, more elegant, and less stark. But sometimes it just doesn’t produce the right effect. And I need to use the high contrast black and white filter.
It was absolutely necessary for the drama of these towering thunderheads.
This one also seemed to require the high contrast black and white.
But back to the junkyard and the silver tone filter...
It was a great day for capturing pictures of old stuff for Monochrome Monday! I even captured some boats down on the waterfront.

I love these pictures, @jayna. Especially the one of the street with the background of stormy sky.
In it you can feel that sensation that makes the air pressure vary before a good rain starts. I don't know what I mean, but it's there.
I also liked the cinematic game in the photography of the dock.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much for your kind comment, @adncabrera! I totally know what you mean about that sensation in the air and the change in air pressure for the rain comes!
Those are beautiful pictures - the do seem to picture an era that's been gone for a long time :)
I really love monochrome photography for that reason. It just transports you, doesn't it?
Very much so 🙂
Anything that is boat/water related and Im sold! :)
I took so many boat pictures today. But I didn't share them in my posts because I'm afraid people will go "Boats? Again???"
Oh noooo. Kind of like the old SNL skit, boats are like cowbell. We need more cowbell. Anyways if you never seen the skit this will make no sense LOL...
Ha ha ha! Oh yes, @old-guy-photos, I absolutely adore that skit. And it just goes to show you that Will Ferrell will do absolutely anything to entertain!
Okay, glad to hear we always need more boats.
