The daily increase in rice consumption is becoming very common due to that other food are no where to be found. Such demand has pushed many farmers to increase their rice farming field. If other food are not available rice will always be seen in the market due to rice is very fast to grow and harvesting period doesn't take time. In some part of Nigeria many rice farmers usually farm more than one to two times a year due to the increase in rice consumption.
To plant rice from the nursery stage, it may be easy but if not properly monitored a whole of it will be swallowed by birds. I can't skip this nursery stage of rice planting without me going to some details so farmer can share the same knowledge with me.
Because it's very needful for the rice planted from the nursery stage to be protected and monitored so that birds will not swallow them all. We have different ways and methods to protect the rice seeds we poured on a cultivated farm land which I have discussed one of it in my last post. We have another way which is the use of weeds or unwanted plants.
Weeds or unwanted plants is another good way which our nursery rice seed can be protected and bird will not eat them. The kind of weed that's supposed to work better is the fresh one weeded the same day the rice seed is to be planted. Fresh weeds or unwanted plants is more better because the leaves are usually alive and can cover a very long range of the rice nursery farm. So before the leaves of the unwanted plants or weeds will dry the planted rice seed would have germinated which birds can no longer eat.
The use of weeds or unwanted plants for rice seed nursery farm is not the best because most strong birds and those that have longer mouth can still have their way inside the covered weeds protecting rice nursery seeds. What such birds do as they're also sensible the same way human does is use their leg to push away the cover wees or unwanted plants guiding the rice seeds. Those birds with longer mouth may not need to stress themselves trying to remove the weeds so they can swallow the rice seeds. All they do is to make their long and strong mouth pass inside the covered weeds and pack the rice seed.
The amount of rice seed that will be lost using weeds or unwanted plants will be very much than when a net I used. The only difference is that the use of weeds or unwanted plants is not costly as such can be gotten inside the farm why the use of net is costly because it can be gotten with money from the market. Cheap things use to work partially while costly tools can work more better.
Some farmers can make weeds or unwanted plants to secure their rice seed nursery by visiting the nursery farm almost three times in a week. As they visit they'll cover the rice nursery farm birds have pushed away. By such act the nursing farm will be protected.
