Frost, temporary winter coop and goat wear

in Homesteadinglast year

Winter has started unusually this year - heavy snowfalls, frost. This doesn't happen very often in our area. Over the past few days, snow has poured knee-deep. Cleaning the road is getting more difficult every day.

Because of the frosts, I had to make a temporary winter chicken coop in the greenhouse again.

But this time I decided not to build a frame, but simply took the old hives from the apiary and constructed a kind of booth, putting the hives on top of each other.

I made a roof out of an old door, added door, walls, closed all the cracks with a mineral wool and installed a primitive heater from 95 watt bulb and metal pipe. And light and heat.

The chickens liked it. Almost a month before, they had not laid eggs, and then, literally the next day, they began to lay.

The goats were also not very happy about the winter. Although they usually tolerate frosts well, but this time one of the goats clearly began to freeze - shivered during milking, and practically did not leave the goat house. But my wife found a way to help the poor animal - she dressed up a goat in a leopard vest :)

Now the fashionable goat feels much better and even walks outside.
