A day of 3dprinting and Loving on our Cat, My first model remix, UFC, Can Rack, Dummies, Sight - Saturday

in Homesteading2 days ago

It's been in the 20s F constantly for days and looks to stay the same for days. That's limited what I can do around the farm so my day was spent in the house. I kept the 3d printer working pretty much constantly all day and am pretty happy to have finished the first of the can racks. The spacer bars on the bottom I resized to just a quarter inch wide which was perfect to allow the cans to fit right.

I swapped out to gray PET to print the parts for the fly reel. I did print the wrong sided reel base so had to print the right handed one overnight.

The bottom part of the can rack. It was a pain in the ass getting broken pins removed until I realized a screw would get them out.

@silvertop mentioned seed word jigs and I found a couple models. This is the base for the washer jig and the other part printed on the gray plate. I tried to print the filament clips but the holes for the filament don't print out big enough.

Rather pleased that it has gone together well and I got it put in the fridge and loaded with cans. It does wonders for organization on the fridge shelf and I already have the second one started this morning which will take 12 hours to finish the last part.

I will be making a spacer that will widen the rack to fit the White Claw cans or 16oz cans. It just takes a resize of the spacer and long enough pins.

Another print but this one had some issues. I didn't realize the tips of the spider legs were oriented the way they were so they popped mid print. The Dummy backpacks DID come out great though and are useable. They have a lid that opens.

The fly fishing reel is pretty damned slick. I have to come up with the spring and ball for the click/pall but it is rather smooth. The knob was where I went wrong and missed inserting a nut into it mid print.

As soon as I found the ice axe for the Dummies I wanted to have crampons but there were no models anywhere so yesterday I figured out Blender. I pulled the foot models in and added the spikes to the base. This is my first real remix of a model and I made a few different versions. I like the two part version with the 4 spikes on the toe.

I was digging through the parts case and put together the farm witch riding a shovel instead of a broom. It made me giggle a good bit in the midst of our dour and sad day while we comforted our frail and dying cat.

The first run of my crampons came off the printer along with a gravity assisted bow sight. The filament clips went all wrong again so I have some work to do to make the model right.

Kahlua. He spent most of the day on our bed and he went through spells of rattling breathing. It's fucking hard.

IMG_20250118_190452.jpg

We all just found ourselves by his side at various times of the day loving on him and trying to keep him comfortable in his only place he has known as home. We are nearing 9 nears since our first dog Rocky died, who was our ring bearer in our wedding, and I can't help but look at the temps outside and remember digging the hole to bury him mid winter.

The last print I had going for the day was a long 6+ hour print that had the knob for the reel on. I tried to insert the nut earlier but realized I had to wait longer. The nozzle would impact the nut if I put it in at this time.

The crampons in action. I think they look great.

The UFC was on which made me miss the Kraken game which they won apparently. This was one of hte fights I was really wanting to see and Juri won pretty easily.

IMG_20250118_200717.jpg

The fight made me nearly miss getting the nut into the reel knob. I had to pause the print and cut open the hole to get it to fit.

IMG_20250118_201030.jpg

It probably was 2 layers late but the thing ended up just fine in the end and the layers adhered fine.

I got the bow sight put together and will look at mounting it on the boy's bow today.

IMG_20250118_205213.jpg

It looks like it will be pretty slick and should give them a much better sense of their aim.

IMG_20250118_205220.jpg

I went out for a short soak late while everyone else was in bed.

Woke to the print done and have the next can rack started now which will finish in 12 hours. Man Utd are trying very hard to lose, we'll be loving on the cat and keeping him content, work on cleaning in the house, and then come up with something for dinner this evening.

I see a blog coming strictly about the 3D Printing Cat. all the things that a cat can make with a 3D Printer. Great post.

I hope somehow your cat pulls through… I know, age wins no matter what!🙄
Looks like the jig base printed very nice, not sure what the clips are for ….
I just received my jig in the mail, and it only has two parts the center circle, and then the base.

That's all it is, just the two parts. I printed the center on the tray of gray.

I see now……👍😊
3-D printers seem awesome, I can see us eventually, looking into one !😊
