Moon, Printing, Salt, Lamp, Froze Hose, Hike, Sunshine, Endo, Wrestling - Wednesday

Got a face full of moon as I dropped the boys at school yesterday morning as the sky was clearing already. There was some fog around but surprisingly not in our valley. It's cold, about 20F but warms up to near 40F during the day thanks to the lack of clouds.

The 3d printer plugged away nonstop all day long as I pushed out parts for the Dummies. The nifty little fidget thing in the upper left corner is an inline 4 cylinder motor that prints in place. This was PLA so it broke free with little effort and spins super easily.

Filled the softener salt and found that I will need to haul more up from the studio where I have the bulk stored. We have just 3 bags left in the basement which will get us through next month but still will need the next batch moved.

Was quite nice to get a face full of sun as I went to get the power and gas meter readings and the mail.

I got a new batch of glycerin going finally. I've been meaning to make more for a while but just kept neglecting to get it going. Nicely the mini crockpot is managing to hold at about 230F on low which is not too high to scorch but more than enough to decarbox. I'll be kicking it off to cool mid morning today then will drain it.

Had to try the wings which managed to do okay... but would have been better in PLA than PET since the PET has a higher bed temp so it's harder to break the joints free. I'll have to be more careful on moveable parts I think to set the bed temp a bit lower for PET.

I went out to the greenhouse and walked in to find the heat lamp bulb had spread itself all over the soil and bricks. SO MANY PIECES!!! It took me a good 15 minutes to pick most of them up. There is still some I have to finish getting today.

The sheep needed water and when I went to hook the hose up I found the faucet was frozen. I have heat tape on the line down into the ground but the tape had come off and allowed the line to come loose from the metal faucet. I grabbed my little heater and set it up to thaw it while I went and hiked the upper property.

Only this one spot I found along the fence line and it was on the outside. Didn't make it under the fence but sure was digging for something.

A nice clear day and our distinct lack of snow in the valley.

IMG_20250115_130144.jpg

We normally have a good coating of snow this time of the year...

I got down from the walk and the faucet was perfectly thawed so I got the sheep water filled. I have to make sure to tape and cover the faucet with foam today.

The stands are rather nice to have for the Dummies. The PET inline motor was WAY WAY harder to get moving than the PLA was. The 70c bed temp welds the pieces together a lot harder and required a lot of fiddling with to get it to actually spin free. I had enough time to get the filament changed and the next print going before I had to leave for my endo appointment.

Got a full head scan just like R did the day before. My regular dentist was SOOOOO close to hitting the canal when she tried to do the root canal but in the end it works that she stopped so the endo can do the proper job. She could have but I respect her for saying no.

It took forever as I was waiting on him to finish another patient. It was all just a consult and my actual procedure will be in 10 days. I am looking forward to the bone regrowing in the abscess....

IMG_20250115_154336.jpg

I got home finally just as it was getting dark and thankfully J offered to make dinner as R had wrestling practice.

Can't help myself, I'm making my dummies climbers. The one has ice axes and sits in the figure 4 perfectly. I'm surprised the other is able to easily hold the edge of the shelf. I want to make crampons for them and a bunch of other extreme sports gear.

More frame sets, feet, proper sized fishing pole, and the pistons for another motor.

IMG_20250115_171114.jpg

Poor R horked from coughing too hard again and sprayed in his room RIGHT before we had to leave for his practice. Got some cleanup done and him ready then we headed up. Fewer kids this time but I think some needed their USA wrestling numbers still to practice. Still 25 kids is good and R has his good buddy from his class now which will help a TON this year as they are similar sized. That's them in the center of the mat.

IMG_20250115_180055.jpg

It really can feel maddening at times how close I am yet still SO far away. JUST GO TO YOUR HOME!

IMG_20250115_185134.jpg

Practice ran a bit late but they don't have any on Monday so I get it. Nick is going to be a good bit harder on the kids than Ben was last year but that is a good thing, it'll keep them more in line and less screwing around. Focus is a difficult and fluid thing in kids.

IMG_20250115_192726.jpg

Back home it took a bit to get out to soak but made R dunk for the chlorine hit before he had to go finish cleaning up his yakk.

IMG_20250115_202039.jpg

Soon after I got out of soaking the last plate for the day was finished.

IMG_20250115_205639.jpg

I found the 2 cylinder motors key chains and have the 45 and 60 degree finished. I'm about to start the print for the 180 in red and will do the 90 in black later. They are a super cool visual of the differences in piston clearance, travel, and design.

IMG_20250115_211052.jpg

Today I'm getting the printer going now, Ill get the boys to school in a bit, PDC starts back up with the Bahrain masters, Man Utd play at noon and I'm fully expecting them to get embarrassed again, will work on the coop faucet, work in the greenhouse, the Kraken play this afternoon, get dinner figured out this evening, and will get the boys after their stem club.

Strange winter here… mostly rain then sunny days! I don’t know why I have snow tires on our car Lol!🙄

I'm regularly hearing the click of the studs on the bare and dry highway but we keep getting freezes and slick roads and the heavy snow level is about 500ft elevation higher than us.

We live off the beaten path where they don’t maintain roads like they should..
Sometimes during the winter, even with four-wheel-drive and studded snow tires, you can’t get through the deep snow. Garbage pick up stops for 2 to 3 weeks. This year nothing ……🙄

The first picture is amazing
