Store, Door, PDC, PI Zero Build, Sprouts, Shit Shoveling, Turkeys Moved, Fire, Grilling - Friday

Yesterday after getting the boys to school I made it to North 40 to pickup dog food and washer fluid. On the way home I stopped for gas which just seems to constantly be going up in price. Thanks to our shit head governor and the psychos in the legislature.

I'm trying to get the RTC going on the new R4s but am having some trouble with it. I will be trying some more to get the battery to hold the time. I'm trying to simplify the code to the very basics of opening and closing and displaying on the lcd.

PDC Euro tour is on this weekend with some pretty solid matches taking place.

The idea hit me. I have an old Asus laptop that I took apart and am now using the screen. The control board for the LCD fits perfectly in the frame from the laptop and I was able to mount the Pi in the corner.

Everything setup easily and I was just waiting on the hdmi cable to arrive.

It was a bit sad to see Barney get whooped. He really does need to re-retire as his form has not been great for quite a while now.

After picking R up from school I was walking by the spinach rows and found that they have started to sprout in all 3 rows. Planted on the first it took them 12 days to sprout.

It was time. The hen and chicks got let out of the pallet hut and they were right to scratching and pecking around the yard.

IMG_20240412_142553.jpg

The hut needed to be shoveled out as it had gotten a bit deep. I got the pitch fork and set to work cleaning out the hut. It took me 4 wheelbarrow loads that I had to push across the farm to the dump. The hen and chicks were all inside the hut while I shoveled and she was super chill as I worked. The chicks would scurry in after I pulled a shovel full out and peck around the various bugs. I had to stop to then go pickup J and C from running club.

Once back I got the last wheelbarrow load hauled away then brought down a load of wood chips which were still wet unfortunately. So I tossed some pine shavings on top beneath the heat lamp for them. The waterer filled and the food trough topped up and it was time to move them all in.

2 by 2 I hauled them over and dropped them in the hut. They were super calm and just stood watching as I brought the rest.

All 16 settled in nicely then over the afternoon and were all hunkered down in the evening when it was time for the coop to close.

The boys were glued to the couch playing on digital for a couple hours.

I got the fire going in the pit and tossed some pine needles on, but not too many as the pile is still pretty wet.

The hdmi cable showed up and I got it hooked up and the setup works! The cool thing is that now I can hook anything up to the screen via any of the input types. I've got a Pi Zero 2 coming today to swap out so the little unit will be able to use chromium.

Got a bunch of potatoes peeled, sliced, and into the Instapot which @stryeyz finished into mashed potatoes. I got our burgers grilled then the buns toasted then we all ate on the deck in the quickly cooling evening air.

My skin didn't allow me a terribly long time soaking but it is slowly, ever so slowly, healing.

My seeds shipped so will be here Monday and I can plant the rest of the rows then. Today darts are on, then Man Utd will get REKT again, I need to pick the lettuce and spinach from the greenhouse to prep for tilling, try and move cabbage plants to the main rows, keep at the coop door opener, keep an eye on the club chat for possible flying opportunities, I'll get the Pi top going with the new Zero 2, then a fire and grilling in the evening.

Do cars use gas?
I feel it is only petrol cars use

We call it gasoline for regular cars and diesel for larger trucks and tractors.

Your way of raising chickens is very interesting, friend, I also keep chickens but I don't use wood chips, I just cover them with a tarpaulin at night so they don't get bitten by mosquitoes and get cold.

We have predators to worry about so have to have a more secure coop for them to sleep in.
