Challenges and Solutions in Backyard Farming

in Homesteading3 months ago

Hello everyone.
Few months ago around may, I decided to cultivate some crops at my backyard. I was contemplating on what crops to cultivate because the rains came very late and it isn't really regular. So I decided to cultivate yam, cassava(Manihot
esculenta) , few vegetables like okra(Abelmoschus
esculentus), Efo Shoko (Celosia argentea) as well as fluted pumpkin(Telfairia occidentalis).

After cultivation, few weeks later the rains became irregular again.
Well of recent I went to the farm and discovered that among everything I planted, it is only the cassava plant that is thriving. The rest are struggling to survive, I tried to revive the crops with manure gotten from a pig farm nearby.

Also I noticed some activities of pest around the farm so I decided to set wire traps, hopefully I'll be able to get rid of them in the farm.

Thanks for stopping by, hope to see you next time.
