Hello Hive
It is finally time for us to boil and eat some rice grains. How do you prefer to eat your grains, with stew or as a party jollof rice for my friends who prefer that. Although there is one phase before the final consumption step.
At the dinning table all the stress out in to grow these grains are often forgotten completely, the financial burdens of wishing to buy these grains is rolled out completely and all there is how is the ease of boiling some grains and eating them with any sauce of our choice.
Basically there is one more step to take before our grains become clean enough and ready for cooking such as the one seen above.
The grains must be precooked/parboiled and then milled at the machinery before they are ready as seen here
I really wish to know how these process is done industrially since their own rice production is done in mass quantities. The machines that does the cleaning and overbooking or the process of which it is done.
For our own local way, we often soak the rice for a period of 48hrs in cold or warm water. This will soften the back of the rice.
As soon as this process is completed we then move to the next phase which is the cooking phase
For the this aspect we cook the soaked rice in large pots over fire wood. This softens the brake further and the fermentation process that occurred during the soaking phase equally reduces the starch in the rice grains and gives it some taste.
Soon as the pods pod open, we then dry the seeds to remove excess water before taking to the mill.
At the mill the grains pass through this milling machine here peeling the back from the grains.
Unfortunately for us the milking machines aren't a common thing here. We have to take at least 1hour drive to access a the machine. It actually seems like there is only 2 of this machine in the whole of this town.
We all have to compete to get our grains milled in turns. There is equally another stoning machine that is meant to filter out sand, stone and dirt particles from the rice grains but we are equally yet to have an access to such kind of machines here. The one available from last year is no longer working.
We sincerely need machines for farming task in this part of the country.

Oh this is crazy.... aI didn't realize the long and hard process rice grain goes through before cooking it.
So you can't just cook it after harvest and eat it?
