Decentralized Applications

With Hive, you can access its Decentralized Applications (dApps) while also steering its growth in the future.

At its core, Hive allows you to blog high quality contents and earn rewards from it, but the whole Hive ecosystem is beyond blogging. It's is more than just blogging. Various dApps integrate itself into Hive blockchain to create games, streaming, and other services. Let's look into it.

Since its forking, more and more dApps are being developed, diversifying the Hive ecosystem. To visit the 'Playstores' of Decentralized Apps, go to the Hive Ecosystem to get a partial list of dApps built for Hive or to Hive Dapps to see more dApps for entertainment, finance, gaming, and more.

Hive is the blockchain, but the dApps is the gateway to the blockchain. The experience of using dApps would more or less still be the same with your favorite websites, games, or apps.

Some of the dApps

To enjoy the full benefits of Hive, you really need to use at least one dApp. Most users start with blogging while some do more with gaming, vlogging, and other stuff.

Hive Blog is the default blogging service, it is the simplest but is still powerful enough to make most of the Hive blogging features.

PeakD is another blogging platform accessible on any web browser. A lot of people use this to write and post contents to the communities.

Ecency is like PeakD, but aside from the website, you can also download its Android or iOS application. Using Ecency lets you earn Ecency Points which you can use to boost or promote posts of your own and from the authors you like.

DBuzz is a micro-blogging platform on Hive where you can share short-form contents.

LeoFinance is like Hive Blog but is on caffeine! Aside from its blogging interface, LeoFinance let's you tweet in Threads. It is a killer feature, LeoThreads is the Twitter on Hive. Posting and engaing in LeoFinance let's you earn LEO tokens too!

Authentication and Login

During your account creation, you might be required to download a file containing your Master Password and four (4) Private Keys. All private keys are used to perform certain actions in the blockchain.

REMINDER: Securely save your keys on your device to maintain future access to the blockchain.

In order to make dApps work, you need to use the specific Private Key for certain operations. Think of it as separate keys of your gate, your house, your room, and your safe box!

Below are some of the most common scenarios where you need each private key, so you'll know you don't need to use it all.

To securely login to the dApps, you'll have different options, but the following are recommended.

These authentication services may also have other features available via their interfaces.

WARNING: Other dApps may require you to directly login with your private keys on their website, always check before you copy and paste!

Hive Fish Scales

Upon starting, you will have 0 HP or Hive Power, just enough for a few limited actions, profile updates, such as posting, voting, commenting.

Whoever personally brought you into Hive should have the moral obligation to properly guide you and even temporarily delegate a small HP as a start. The more HP you have, the more actions you can do daily.

Hive Fish Scales is basically just a bragging rights and aren't really that important, but once you get more Hive Power, then you can see that each upvote you make has more value.

The levels are computed by VESTS which is always changing in actual HP value, but to visualize it better, the table above is just a simplified model.

HIVE token

Hive is the blockchain, HIVE is the liquid asset, meaning it can be converted to any supported currency or cryptocurrency anytime. Please take note that any available services might require registration and some transaction fees.

Hive-Backed Dollars

Hive-Backed Dollars are tokens that are almost equivalent to USD in value. It sustains the blockchain in a complex way. Users also have an option to put unused HBDs to HBD Savings to earn interests.

Power Up

Staking or Power Up is converting you HIVE tokens into Hive Power, thus increasing your overall Resource Credits and voting power. You will earn extra HIVE based on your current HP through inflation adjustments.

Powering up also sustains the blockchain.

Power Down

Powering down is converting your Hive Power into liquid HIVE. This will reduce your Resource Credits and voting power. The process may take up to 13 weeks to complete, and is paid out once a week.

Delegate

Once you have extra HPs, delegate some to trusted curation accounts to earn extra Hive even when you're away. This way, you help the curation accounts give more upvotes to more quality contents while also having a chance to earn passively.

Only delegate to accounts you trust, the curation accounts will also explicitly announce any payout for any delegations. It is also not the obligation of any account to pay for any of your delegations.

Resource Credits and Mana

Your Resource Credits will enable you do actions which is connected to your Hive Power, higher HP will raise your Resource Credits and Voting Value.

Your RCs is directly linked to your Mana and the purpose of your daily Mana is to make every action precious! Each action will drains your Mana, but will full recover in 5 days. It also prevents excessive transactions and abuse within the blockchain.

If you're low on HP and need a 7-day delegation, you can try GiftGiver, but their delegations might reached the limit due to demand, so you need to time it by checking their @giftgiver delegations in their wallet.

Vote for Witnesses

If people like us make Hive alive, the witnesses makes it living! They do the nasty jobs of putting Hive online with all the dedication, expenses and processing for all of us.

Aside from putting up nodes, most witnesses are core developers and dApps developers too, meaning they improve Hive for us!

Each account are allowed to vote up to 30 witnesses, but not necessarily exhaust it all, so ten witnesses should be enough. You can always check the witnesses profiles and see what projects they are contributing to and if they seem to be worthy for support.

Voting for witnesses does not cost you anything, it just sums up all the HPs of the accounts who voted for it and ranks the tally. The top 20 witness will be the main block producers and the rest will be the backup.

Support for Proposals

Hive Proposals are core- and side-projects expected to benefit Hive as a whole. The proposal needs enough support to reach the cut-off, but supporting will not cost you anything.

Decentralized Social Media

Hive is more than just blockchain anf cryptocurrency, find common interests through communities. Aside from upvotes, if you find the post interesting, always leave a comment or tag your friends that might be interested in it.

Communities

Communities is what makes Hive alive, the owners and moderators of these communities curates specific types of contents, some are about arts, poetry, food, travels, agriculture, crypto, and a lot more.

You can subscribe to different communities you like and also write relevant post to that community to gain a wider audience and potential upvotes!

Quality Contents

Create quality and relevant contents that can be consumed even a decade after. Usually a great post contains useful information and/or relatable contents that can be shared outsidea the Hive Ecosystem.

There are no written rules about what is a quality content, since it is fairly subjective, but most avid readers will know what is a good read. A great start is to consistently write 500 words or more per post with helpful images or charts to visualize your writings. Do not plagiarize and do not use images you do not own.

Avoid overtagging, use less emojis, and make everything look organized.

Lastly, post it to relevant communities so you will find the right audience. This will also make your post easier to find by people who are not yet following you. While this is not a guarantee for curations trails or upvotes, it will help you improve your writing skills while sharing something worth reading.

Remember, no one is obligated to upvote you. Start by connecting with people that share you interests and build your reputation.

Reputation

For a start, you will have a default reputation at 25, but should grow as you go.

The general rule is to make quality contents and engage in the communities. Your reputation only grows when people with higher reputation upvotes your contents. The higher their reputation, the greater effect on your growth. Or if you abuse Hive, downvoting will realy push you down to the negative side!

Upvotes and Downvotes

Owning a Hive account means you are a curator as well, the curators huge HPs might find your post and will possibly reward you based on their voting percentage.

The general rule is to vote based on the value of each content, and since the Mana limits abuse, lower your voting percent to make most of it. Conserve your votes, vote only for quality contents to improve the quality of the blockchain.

You can also check out the Upvote Calculator on HiveNow to check how much value upvote based on different parameters and most recent data.

Voting enables the blockchain to give rewards to quality contents created by other authors by rewarding the creator of the content, giving back to the Hive, and rewards the upvoters as well.

Also, tou have the right to downvote contents or comments that are potentially abusive, harassing, or threatining in nature. In this way, the system will know what behaviors are not helping Hive.

FUN TIP! Voting does not reduce your tokens.

Claim Rewards

By default, claiming rewards will give you both Hive Power and Hive Backed Dollars (HBD) based on the actual payout of your contents. Also, depending on the situation of Hive, it may also give you full Hive tokens or a mix of all.

You also have an option to change rewarding by 50% HP / 50% HBD, 100% HP, decline rewards, or burn to @null.

Hive requires you to manually claim rewards, once claimed it will add up to your wallet. Some dApps allows reward auto-claim but use cautiously.

1. Visit the Pinmapple website
2. Click the get code button
3. Zoom in and click on your desired location
4. Add a short description on the pinned location
5. Copy and paste the generated code in your Hive post
6. Publish as usual
