[ENG-SPN] Gaudí: an architect of the Spirit / Gaudí: un arquitecto del Espíritu

Good proof that Antonio Gaudí was a worthy heir to the sublime spirit that characterized medieval builders, through which nothing was left to chance, but, on the contrary, everything obeyed an end and, of course, a sense, we have it, without going any further, in the media idiosyncrasy, of that marvel, not yet finished, which is its immeasurable 'cathedral of the poor', better known as the Sacred Family. If by itself, its innovative design produces an impressive emotional shock in the viewer's perspective and feelings, it is no less so, at all, the sense with which this metaphorical alchemist of Architecture understood what a Work of God, by God and for God. Perhaps for this reason and perhaps also, based on the old saying that we are pilgrims and we find ourselves on the Way, we have the clearest meaning in three of its main facades, which, like the symbolic trajectory that the sun travels every day, not by chance, they are determined by the Birth, the Passion and the Glory or Resurrection.

In them, and as an essential part of that organic concept that the undeniable Catalan genius considered should prevail in all architecture, we observe, immersing ourselves in the innumerable details, which do not simply refer to the life cycles of that Sacred Family, of those solid pillars on which a religion is based, Christianity, whose faith is embraced by millions of people in the world, but also, that immeasurable set, of abundant vitality, that complements it, that invigorates it and that enhances it, as it is nature. That is why Gaudí's Work is always much more than a simple temple, because in it, not only does praise to God have a place, but, going even further, Gaudí praises and pays homage, without exception, neither no matter how small, to the whole of his Creation.

For this reason, when one finds himself in front of a work of such extraordinary connotations, he does not see the cold walls of a temple, but, on the contrary, he notices that, in this, there is also room for a mountain, a cave, a vital torrent of water sliding harmoniously to the beat of countless living beings, which invite you to reflect and see this world, as it really should be: an outstanding conjunction of harmony, beauty and perfection.

Buena prueba de que Antonio Gaudí fue un digno heredero del espíritu sublime que caracterizaba a los constructores medievales, mediante el cual, nada se dejaba al azar, sino que, por el contrario, todo obedecía a un fin y, desde luego, a un sentido, lo tenemos, sin ir más lejos, en la mediática idiosincrasia, de esa maravilla, aún no finalizada, que es su inconmensurable ‘catedral de los pobres’, más conocida, como la Sagrada Familia. Si ya de por sí, su innovador diseño produce un impactante choque emocional en la perspectiva y en los sentimientos del espectador, no lo es menos, en absoluto, el sentido con el que éste metafórico alquimista de la Arquitectura entendió lo que debía de ser una Obra de Dios, por Dios y para Dios. Quizás por ello y puede que también, en base al antiguo dicho de que peregrinos somos y en el Camino nos encontramos, el sentido más claro lo tengamos en tres de sus fachadas principales, que, como la trayectoria simbólica que recorre el sol cada día, no por casualidad, estén determinadas por el Nacimiento, la Pasión y la Gloria o Resurrección.

En ellas y como parte imprescindible de ese concepto orgánico que el innegable genio catalán consideraba que debía imperar en toda arquitectura, observamos, sumergiéndonos en los innumerables detalles, que no se refieren, simplemente, a los ciclos vitales de esa Sagrada Familia, de esos sólidos pilares sobre los que se asienta una religión, el Cristianismo, cuya fe es abrazada por millones de personas en el mundo, sino también, ese inconmensurable conjunto, de vitalidad a raudales, que lo complementa, que lo vigoriza y que lo realza, como es la Naturaleza. Es por ello, que la Obra de Gaudí, resulta siempre mucho más que un simple templo, pues en ella, no sólo tiene cabida la alabanza a Dios, sino que, yendo más allá todavía, Gaudí ensalza y rinde homenaje, sin excepción, ni por ínfimo que sea, al conjunto de su Creación.

Por eso, cuando uno se encuentra frente a una obra de connotaciones tan extraordinarias, no ve los fríos muros de un templo, sino que, por el contrario, advierte, que, en éste, tiene cabida también una montaña, una gruta, un vital torrente de agua deslizándose armoniosamente al compás de infinidad de seres vivos, que te invitan a la reflexión y a ver este mundo, como realmente debería de ser: una sobresaliente conjunción de armonía, belleza y perfección.
