The imagination of medieval stonemasons, even adapted to the circumstances of their time and being, as a whole, true neotestamental referents, knew no limits and despite its apparent linearity -as affirmed, among others, modern art historians, such as Erwin Panofsky - They developed, within this significant set of archetypes, a fantastic creativity, which, on occasions, unnoticed by the watchful eye of the official orthodoxy of the Church, alluded to certain aspects of heterodox Gnosticism. The creativity of the medieval stonemason, therefore, oscillated continuously between apparent ingenuity and unofficial knowledge, which still surprises not a few historians today, although most prefer to avoid the dangerous paths of speculation and pass long, so as not to upset the morally established.

With the discovery of the alleged remains of the Apostle Santiago the Older, in a secluded place in ancestral Galicia, the forest of Llibredón, and in view of the expectation that such an extraordinary event caused, at that decisive moment in which the Iberian Peninsula was practically dominated by the Muslim armies that settled all matters from their powerful center of power, which was the Caliphate of Córdoba, the old Roman roads were brought back to the present day, proceeding to the opening of roads that brought, as a consequence, a light for that West obsessed after the fall of the Roman Empire and it was, through them, how new ideas were settling, with all the force of its power, in a Spain, which gradually began to dream of the Reconquest.

It's a very beautiful picture. But I don't know why your picture reminds me of the church in Spain. That church was made of human bones. If I have a chance, I want to go back to Spain again. Because last time I had only one week to travel in Spain.

I don't know exactly which church you mean. I know one, that of Santa María de Wamba, in Valladolid, which has an old ossuary full of human bones. Maybe you mean that. But bones in churches used to be common, not only because they all had their own small cemetery added, but also because some of the bones of the deceased were used in certain ceremonies, which are no longer in use today. Thank you very much for your comment and best regards.

Maybe my memory is wrong. Because at that time, within two months I traveled to five countries. The church I'm talking about might be in Portugal.

This building is really beautiful, the arches and columns on the façade are very nice. The entrance portal is wonderful. Thank you for sharing these good quality photos. Judging by its architecture and the erosion of some parts, it looks like a very old building. !PGM

Indeed, it is very old. Of the 12th century and one of the most impressive Romanesque buildings in Spain. In addition, with a lot of history, because in it the sponsorship of King Alfonso VIII (who headed the important battle of Las Navas de Tolosa) with Leonor Plantagenet, daughter of Enrique II of England and Leonor de Aquitaine. She was lifted by architects from Aquitaine, who traveled with the princess's entourage. A true work of art. Thank you very much for your assessment and appreciation and a cordial greeting.

Thank you for your clarification and for teaching me this piece of history !PGM
