[ENG-SPN] Towers and Legends of the Coast of Death / Torres y leyendas de la Costa de la Muerte

It won't be the first, nor the last, time that my thoughts, unlike Bécquer's dark swallows, return, again and again, and as many times as necessary, to those enigmatic places, whose legends are lost in the embers of those bonfires, which one day, so distant or long, as the Hindus say it is the blink of Brahma's eye, gave birth to a Protohistory, which, because it was fantastic, was banished to the fascinating world of Mythology.

There, not far from a modern and symbolic Compass Rose that fearfully gazes out at the rough waters of the Coast of Death, it is said, commented, and rumored that Hercules, who knew Spain when prosperous kingdoms still existed, such as that of King Argantonio, supposedly located somewhere near the mouth of the Guadalquivir, where even James Cameron, the director of "Titanic," among other major productions, wanted to see vestiges of Atlantis, roamed these lands and slew the giant Breogán.

And in that same place, where he apparently buried him, a tower was built, which also witnessed how the bored Roman legionaries scanned a horizon beyond the choppy waves of this untamed sea, which instilled true terror in them, for not in vain did they consider them to be the waters of the Sea of the End of the World: those that devoured the sun every evening.

No será la primera ni tampoco la última vez que mis pensamientos, a diferencia de las oscuras golondrinas de Bécquer, retornen, una, otra y cuantas veces hagan falta a esos lugares enigmáticos, cuyas leyendas se pierden en las brasas de aquellas hogueras, que un día, tan lejano o largo, como dicen los hindúes que es el parpadeo del ojo de Brahma, alumbraron una Protohistoria, que, por fantástica, fue desterrada al fascinante mundo de la Mitología.

Allá, no lejos de una moderna y simbólica Rosa de los Vientos que mira temerosa las bravas aguas de la Costa de la Muerte, se dice, se comenta y se rumorea que Hércules, que conoció España cuando todavía existían reinos prósperos, como el del rey Argantonio, que se supone estaba situado por algún lugar cercano a la desembocadura del Guadalquivir, donde incluso hasta James Cameron, el director de ‘Titanic’, entre otras grandes producciones, quiso ver vestigios de la Atlántida, rondó por estas tierras y en ellas dio muerte al gigante Breogán.

Y en ese mismo lugar, donde, al parecer, lo enterró, se construyó una torre, que, además, fue testigo de cómo los aburridos legionarios romanos oteaban un horizonte, más allá de las olas encrespadas de este indómito mar, que les infundía auténtico pavor, pues no en vano, las consideraban como las aguas del mar del Fin del Mundo: aquellas que devoraban al sol cada atardecer.
