Hola a todos Felicidades a los ganadores de la ronda pasada.Hay canciones que te enseñan cosas sin que te des cuenta. Autumn Leaves es una de esas. Al principio uno la ve como otro estándar de jazz que hay que aprender, que todos tocan en las jam sessions, que viene en los libros de teoría y los leadsheets. Pero basta con tocarla un par de veces, o escucharla bien con los ojos cerrados, y te das cuenta: esta canción tiene algo más.

La armonía es simple pero elegante. Cambia de menor a mayor de una forma tan natural que casi no te das cuenta, pero emocionalmente se siente como si pasáramos de un recuerdo triste a una especie de resignación tranquila. Y si la tocas con intención, cada acorde te habla. El II-V-I en G menor te hace sentir solo. El paso a B♭ mayor... es como una pequeña esperanza. Es loco cómo unos cuantos acordes pueden decir tanto sin palabras.

Y la melodía... tan sencilla, tan directa. No necesita correr, ni brillar. Solo cae. Como las hojas. Como la memoria de alguien que ya no está. Por eso duele. Y por eso funciona.

Todos los músicos la tocan. Pero no todos la sienten. Algunos la hacen sonar técnica, correcta. Pero cuando alguien la toca con el corazón, se nota. El silencio entre las frases, los ataques suaves, esa nota larga que se estira un poquito más de lo normal… ahí es donde vive la canción.

Yo creo que Autumn Leaves no es solo para practicar improvisación. Es para practicar humanidad. Porque nos enfrenta con una de las cosas más duras: dejar ir. Y eso no se enseña en ninguna partitura.

No subestimes nunca una canción que todo el mundo toca. Algunas esconden verdades muy grandes en las cosas más simples. Autumn Leaves no es solo una pieza más del Real Book. Es una clase de vida disfrazada de estándar. Espero lo disfruten

Hello everyone, congratulations to the winners of the last round.There are songs that teach you stuff without you even realizing it. Autumn Leaves is one of those. At first, you see it as just another jazz standard you have to learn, something everyone plays at jam sessions, something that’s in all the theory books and lead sheets. But when you play it a couple of times, or really listen to it with your eyes closed, you realize: this song has something more.

The harmony is simple but elegant. It switches from minor to major so naturally that you barely notice, but emotionally it feels like we’re moving from a sad memory to a kind of quiet acceptance. And if you play it with feeling, every chord talks to you. The ii-V-I in G minor it makes you feel alone. The move to B♭ major... it’s like a little hope. It’s crazy how a few chords can say so much without words.

And the melody, so simple, so straightforward. It doesn’t need to rush or shine. It just falls. Like the leaves. Like the memory of someone who’s gone. That’s why it hurts. And that’s why it works.

Every musician plays it. But not everyone feels it. Some make it sound technical, correct. But when someone plays it from the heart, you notice. The silence between phrases, the soft attacks, that one note held just a bit longer than usual that’s where the song lives.

I think Autumn Leaves isn’t just for practicing improvisation. It’s for practicing being human. Because it confronts us with one of the hardest things: letting go. And you can’t learn that from any sheet music.

Never underestimate a song everyone plays. Some hide really big truths in the simplest things. Autumn Leaves isn’t just another piece in the Real Book. It’s a life lesson disguised as a standard.
