RE: EARTH HEALING #10: Tasting Earth, Digging Earth, Bees, Biomimicry & Choices

Wow, we are truly humbled. I will have @sreypov drop by this post. So, @Sreypov has recently surpassed me in photography skills as many of you have probably noticed. She now has a notebook full of codes, makes her own posts totally from scratch, and this learning curve was all conquered in a month.

In other news, yesterday a 6pm curfew was imposed, and we are no longer allowed to enter shops, we must buy through the iron bars. The queues are sometimes 30 minutes or more even for small corner shops, and we are finding it hard to communicate with the Chinese shop owners, but to our amazement so are some Surinamers. Two Venezuelan girls waiting in line today tried to get us to translate for them, but we had to tell them we are just as hopeless.

What's the dominant language in Suriname, @justinparke? Just for daily shopping etc? And how's the wifi and other infrastructure holding up?

Well, with the recent increased lockdown, we can't go out past 6pm and we can't go inside the shops, and now have to wait in in queues over a half hour just to get a lighter or any basic item. We've now learned the Chinese shop owners don't really speak Dutch.

Apparently there is Chinese organization which teaches new arrivals Sranang Tongo, as it is simpler and easier for them to pick up. However, their Dutch and English is very limited, so we struggle to mix a bunch of languages. Surinamers are even having communication problems at the shops, so many have recommended we have pictures on our phone of the items we need. Life just got a lot harder. Now we have to add 2 hours to everyday just for waiting in queues.

I really hope it gets better soon, we can't keep living like this.
