FOODlog #704: Chinese style Whole Steamed Fish with Ginger & Garlic Wine Sauce

Went out 2 weeks ago with my brother to sign the final papers for the purchase of the condo unit for my parents. The down-payment has been completed and we'll start servicing the loan in maybe Q3-Q4 of this year. We bless the crypto markets to be favorable to us for the next 30 years and even better yet would be able to pay it within 10 years. That's our goal so you can join me in faith and prayer for this if you'd like to.

After signing the papers, we had dinner at New Li Garden, a hawker stall nearby where we live.

We got some delicious food to celebrate a milestone that just a year or 2 ago we wouldn't have thought possible.

We ordered from 2 different shops. We got a whole steamed fish topped with garlic and ginger and seasoned with a mix of soy sauce and Chinese rice wine. The fish was tender and so fragrant from all the aromatics flavoring the fish. The gravy-like broth was so delicious and I kept going back spoonful after spoonful.

From the same stall we also got a plate of steamed lettuce topped with crispy shallots and seasoned with soy sauce as well.

Another stall we got food from was the 'Bak Kut Teh' stall. We wanted the dry Bak Kut Teh but it wasn't available that day so we got their soup version instead. It had pork rib, pork belly, tofu, enoki mushrooms and some lettuce. The broth was well balance from all the herbs and spices. It was naturally sweet and savory and full of flavor from all the pork meat and bones.

We had all this with rice. What a nice and fruitful dinner it was having a meal and talking about the future.
