Hello, friends especially foodies!

Indonesia has many kind of authentic dishes, one of the traditional chicken which came from Central Java named Kalasan Chicken. Kalasan is the name of a small city in Central Java where this dish was originated. Kalasan chicken can be both grilled or fried. And what made it unique is the authentic dark brown color of it, that you won't find in any other dishes.

The Kalasan Chicken which i ate came from a small restaurant named Warung Pojok. Pojok means corner while warung means small restaurant. So Warung Pojok means small restaurant which is located in a corner.

The restaurant itself was located in Shop house of Mediterania 2 Apartment, Tanjung Duren Raya street.

The restaurant didn't have a large dining area but it was quite large and it never lost customers. Yes, the customers were there eventhough it was not dine time. We came there at almost 3 pm but still on the waiting list before could be seated. What a popular restaurant!

The dining area was modest with plastic steel chairs, air cons and fans on the ceiling. The sunlight could reached it from their large glass windows and door, plus they also put bright lights there too. The place was a nice place to enjoy dine in with friends or family members, even by yourself alone.

The food that this restaurant had were Indonesian dishes. They had kind of chicken like smashed fried chicken, fried kalasan chicken, spicy chili paste smashed chicken, chicken wings, chicken nuggets, smashed beef rib, smashed meatballs, fried noodle, chicken fried noodle, fried rice noodle, fried flat noodle. They also had kind of fried rice, soup and stirred veggies.

Beside ala carte, they also sold some of their dishes in packages like fried chicken package, fried kalasan chicken package, smashed fried beef rib package, presto bandeng package, beef rib clear soup package, oxtail soup package, beef clear soto package, chicken betawi soto package and smashed squid package.

Enough with the food, for the drink they had kind of juice, lime pressed ice, orange squash, lemon squash and so on.

Good thing about their menu, they were already included tax with no extra serving charge. So i am sure the price won't make you broke.

After had ordered, we needed to wait around 20 minutes for them to be ready with our food, delivered to our table.

Here was what i had that day. It was simply Fried Kalasan Chicken Package with Hot Tea.

The plate of the Kalasan Chicken contained Kalasan Chicken, Bacem Tempeh and Tofu plus Homemade Chili Paste.

And the taste of each dish were

First their Fried Kalasan Chicken, it had soft texture. Even i couldn't get the thigh part and only could be satisfied with the breast part but this was so soft and smooth (it must be from the coconut milk they used to make it). It had sweet original flavour from the brown sugar which it made with. But it was less sweet than it used to be, usually they made it sweeter before. But i thought it was okay and they still served it tasty.

Second their Bacem Tempeh and Tofu, also traditional, they made it very well. I usually couldn't eat it if they couldn't make it properly cause sometimes it had bad smell but it didn't happen in this restaurant. They could cook it so well so that i could finish them. It had sweet flavour and so authentic.

Third, their homemade chili paste. It completed the sweet dominant flavour of the chicken and bacem, because it had savory and spicy flavour. A great match for the dishes, i think!

Before i finished, i still had Sayur Asem or Sour Veggie Soup in the package.

It contained vegetable like jackfruit, chayote, corn, belinjo leaves, peanuts and belinjo. Sweet and sour, it was so fresh and tasty. It completed the Chicken and Bacem so well too.

So tasty and won't make you broke, i recommend you to try this restaurant's Kalasan Chicken and their other menus too!
