When I first visited the Marine Parade hawker food center, the Cai Fan stall was closed. I thought they had permanently shut down, but it turned out they were just taking a day off. So, when I returned to the Marine Parade area and saw that they were open, I knew I had to try it.
The first thing I noticed was the impressive variety of fish dishes. They even had a large chunk of salmon available for anyone to order. Although it looked tempting, I didn't dare order it because the portion was too big for lunchtime. I'm trying to eat less during lunch to avoid feeling sleepy afterward.
I opted for a smaller fish with a dark sauce resembling teriyaki. It indeed tasted similar to teriyaki sauce. The main dish was the fish, accompanied by scrambled eggs and sautéed cabbage. I love Cai Fan stalls like this, with plenty of fish options.
The taste felt like an elevated version of typical mixed-vegetable rice. The sautéed cabbage had a better flavor, with a pronounced garlic taste, and was well-seasoned. The fish was deep-fried first and then coated with a sweet and savory dark sauce. I enjoyed this dish so much that I almost didn't notice the scrambled eggs.
This Cai Fan stall at Marine Parade is a hidden gem, and I can't wait to return and try more of their fish dishes!
In conclusion, discovering this Cai Fan stall at the Marine Parade hawker food center was a delightful surprise. The variety of fish dishes and the flavorful preparation made for a memorable meal. I’m excited to return and explore more of their delicious offerings!
Wow, simple and nice. Though many a times, we are spoilt for choices.
