Breakfast in Thong Kee, a more HK- style Eatery in Setapak

After dropping our two boys to school yesterday, the husband and I detoured to an eatery that is rather new in Setapak.

I have seen some people going to this place called Thong Kee but did not really know where it is located at. The night before school reopening, I coincidentally saw KL Foodie recommended it on Instagram and I had been having like milk tea craving so I wanted to try it out.

It is located at this place called Setapak Village which I seldom been in. When we drove in, then only we noticed there were quite a few onteresting restaurants in here.

Location: Unit 2080-L2, Setapak Village, 1617, Jalan Genting Kelang, Taman Danau Kota, 53300 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur
Opening hours: 7am to 9pm daily

This is like quite a famous breakfast place for the Chinese especially in this area, maybe because it is opened from 7am as not all shops are opened this early. Maybe the patrons are parents like me who come after dropping children or right before their work.

When we arrived, we noticed it has many tables. Though not all occupied, it was relarively quite full. There was even a queue out there, queueing to be directed to our seats.

The husband and I joined the queue. It took us maybe about 8 to 10 minutes before it reaches our turn. There is also a separate lane for queueing and waiting for takeaways.

So we got a table and sat down a while. After that, I went looking at the different stalls selling different food.

Firstly, there is this Hainanese chicken rice stall, which also sells chicken porridge.

Next up is the wantan mee stall which is dry noodles mixed in soy sauce and comes with fried dumplings. The husband asked me to order this for him. This same stall sells also some braised chicken feet for RM5 so I ordered for us to share.

Then there is also the chicken sliced hor fun (flat rice noodles), curry mee and nasi lemak which is rice in cooked in coconut milk.

Following suit is the Claypot noodles, pan mee and fried noodles. I was having some difficulty to choose between many of these food.

Our food came fast!!!

After ordered and paid, I went back to sit at where our table was. It did not take long before the food came, one after another. The whole place was also comfortable and cooling as it is quite well ventilated.

Wantan mee

Okay it did not look like how it got displayed in the photo but this wantan mee actually tastes good! It is priced at RM9.

Braised chicken feet

This is RM5 for 3 chicken feet. I know not everyone eats chicken feet but this is kne of the dim sum food in Malaysia. Howerver what they have here is too gingery.

Chili Pan Mee

Finally my chili pan mee came. I forgot to ask them cook the egg fully so I had to transfer the egg to the husband because I cannot eat raw egg due to being pregnant.

After mixed all the ingredients up, it looked like this.

The taste is actually not bad. But I have tasted better chili pan mee.

Before leaving, I wanted to check out their pastries counter and get a snack in case I get hungry later as I did not plan to have lunch.

Here is their menu.

Their snacks here are more Hong Kong style.

There were also ready pastries like Portuguese tarts on display and spring rolls and some butter cakes.

I got their 3 layer milk tea cos I had some tea cravings right? Only to take a sip and passed the rest to my husband. Surprisingly it tasted really good because it has winter melon drink infused with tea and milk. It is as light as the one I know from my hometown using palm sugar.

Some Portuguese egg tarts for tea time which I kept until near dinner. They were not too sweet so I like them.

Will I patronize this place again? Maybe. The environment itself is actually comfortable. The food price is slightly higher than average but not too bad. Well, at least I am quite happy with my first visit to Thong Kee!
