Celebrating Mum-in-law's birthday at Peranakan Place!

My mum-in-law celebrated her 63rd birthday last Friday but we were not with her as she was celebrating it with my dad-in-law. We know she had been wanting to visit a place so we planned and took time off to build memories with her today. I will need some time to tidy up photos for that trip so today let me write about the birthday lunch after that instead.

It was our first time visiting this mall which is really far away from where we stay but it is the nearest mall from where we were at. There is this restaurant called Peranakan Place which serves Nyonya and Peranakan food. None of us has tried it before so my brother-in-law and husband saw that it looks very nice and decent, we decided to patronize it for the first time.

Peranakan Place

Peranakan in our local Malay language (and even in Indonesia and Singapore) simply means someone of a mixed and foreign ancestry. We do have a lot of Peranakans here because Malaysia was colonised before so some of the locals married the foreigners which birth forth a rich and vast heritage here. As a result of that, of course many food and culture came along too. Peranakan food has always been the food of interest for my mum-in-law because of where she came from too, Penang. There are alot of Peranakans there so she sort of gotten used to their kind of taste and food. Hence this is why this restaurant is the perfect choice!

Just look at how colourful their signage is!

I absolutely like their simple decorations and how bright the whole place looks.

We were greeted by some beautiful vases at the entrance.

The whole place was decorated with many bright-coloured tiffin carriers.

I find it so lovely and cute at the same time. Very creative decorating idea, don't you think so?

We sat before this very colourful walls with different fabrics.

The motives are more Peranakan style.

After ordering our food and while waiting, I looked up and saw their lights are chandelier-like.

My son too was admiring and checking out the lights. Behind him is also a nice piece of wall with some flowers as the motive.

Food came super fast after we ordered via online by scanning their provided QR code on their table.

Honestly there are not many food on their menu. This is how their physical menu look like.

But........

All the food we ordered tasted soooooo delicious and excellent!

Let me showed you what we ordered.

BEEF RENDANG WITH RICE
Husband ordered this though he said it was nice, it had no surprising effect. But still, he said there is nothing to complain about it.

CENDOL WITH SOME CREAMY CORN

I was very impressed by this sweet and savory dessert. Cendol is a famous Peranakan cold dessert with red beans, green jelly and coconut milk on shaved ice. I mean I don't usually have high expectation on this dessert though it is generally nice but this managed to surprise me.

PAI TEE

These are turnips julliened and served in small edible crispy cups like these.

SPICED CHICKEN WITH RICE.

We ordered this for my two sons because it is not spicy though cooked with some spices. The chicken was done really really well. It was very full of taste and the crisp of it was just really nice. I love it!!

USUAL CENDOL OR CENDOL BIASA

My sister-in-law ordered this. I think all of them also enjoyed it very much especially her sons.

After we finished our lunch, thank God I suddenly remember we should take a birthday group photo.

Happiest birthday to my mum-in-law who is always very gracious and generous. We are blessed to have her among us, loving us and our children so much ❤️
