My First Encounter and Trying Out Real "Snail Rice Noodles" (螺蛳粉)

Have you heard or tried this quite famous noodles called 螺蛳粉or "snail rice noodles" that originates from LiuZhou, China?

It has been a hype among some of my friends and my sisters, especially those who know or watch China drama. Before this, my sister kept having the instant ones after her son is asleep. I haven't been able to find the instant one but then one day as I was passing by going to a restaurant for lunch, I spotted a shop nearby selling it!

I was contemplating if I want to get it packed for dinner. It is known to have a unique smell due to the fermented bamboo shoots, so I was a bit afraid that my sons and husband could not tolerate it. I for one, love to try food with strong smell and am fond of them, hahahhah. Food like smelly tofu is my favorite. The weird thing is the smellier the food is, the more I like them. Oops! Peculiar taste, but yeah when I heard this is 'smelly', I really wanted to try it.

I stepped into the shop to find it having a simple layout. There were not many customers that day, only me and a table of 2.

There were posters hanging on the walls showing a variety of pairing of the snail rice noodles with other ingredients like pork leg? Wow!

The cashier has a simple menu of what we can order. There are side dishes and also some drinks too. I ordered their 网红螺蛳粉which means Social Media Viral Snail Rice Noodles and added a 炸蛋which is a deep fried egg as I have seen how the China Chinese ordered their eggs to be soaked in the soup. I just had to try that combination.

Next to the cashier is their assembling station. So the owner helped to assemble the different ingredients like fermented bamboo shoot, black fungus, kangkung (water spinach), peanuts, fuzhu(friend beancurd skin) and finally topped with my deep fried egg on top.

The soup was packed separately so my noodles and the other ingredients won't be oversoaked.

Then, I brought this back and I could already smell its aroma. Surprisingly, my husband and sons could tolerate the smell!

Dinner time!

I got a bit excited over this food that I could not nap. Was so anticipating dinner time to devour and try this out. I warmed up the soup.

Poured the soup over the noodles and deep fried egg to make sure all were immersed in the soup.

They gave this chilli oil which pairs perfectly with the noodle. I absolutely love it! Compared to the fermented bamboo shoots, I love the deep fried egg, fuzhu, peanuts and the warer spinach much more in the soup.

However I can only eat it once in a blue moon because it didn't pass my sugar test hehe.

Well, did I mention I alao bought an instant version of it? Hahaha I so happened saw it.

For those of you who are curious and adventurous, you must try it when you spot it around!
