Mei Keng Seafood Restaurant is back!

There was a night when my parents were here for Chinese New Year, we passed by a newly-open restaurant and got really excited about it. Because it was one of our favourite restaurants which closed down during Covid19 season and it reopened at another place. So, without any hesitation, we decided to dine here!

Mei Keng Seafood Restaurant

Location: W.P, 32,JALAN 9/23A MEDAN MAKMUR, OFF, Jalan Usahawan, Setapak, 53200 Kuala Lumpur

It was not beautifully-decorated because it was the traditional type of Chinese restaurant, open-air concept. It was comfortable enough, spacious for a small crowd but definitely couldn't cater for huge crowd. Cooling environment with sufficient indoor mobile air-conditioning.

My brother and his wife reached earlier and had ordered total 7 dishes.

The food my brother ordered

Ginger Rice Wine Clam (lala wine)

This was highly recommended by the lady boss and we knew it too. It had been the most sought-after food at their restaurant even before they closed down during the pandemic. Very soothing to drink, the balance of rice wine and ginger with a little spice from chilli. Very syiok! The seafood lala was very fresh too. Yums!

Classic Soy Sauce Tofu

We all love smooth silken Tofu so eventhough this was a very simple dish to make at home, my brother still ordered because he was craving for it. Simple smooth tofu with soy sauce and lots of fried onions and scallion. Very fresh tofu and therefore it was delicious. Two actually not enough for us all.

Deep fried salted egg squid

This was our favourite dish at Mei Keng too for years. The standard had not dropped. Very well coated with fresh salted egg and perfectly deep fried with the squid inside still soft. Great job to the Chef!

Dry Butter Prawns

We all also love butter seafood, this time, my brother chose the dry butter style. Super well-cooked. The buttery-hair was so crispy and tasty, the prawns were so so fresh. This was like the dish of the night, and not enough for us all. Haha.

Sweet Sour Pork Cubes

This one we called 'ku lao rou', basically it was deep fried pork cubes, then soaked in sweet sour tomato sauce. Super duper delicious too although it was abit hard for my dad. Usually this dish came with cucumber and pineapples cubes. Just the right amount for us.

Sweet potato leaves and Lettuce

We all love vegetables and can eat alot. So for that night, for 10 of us, brother ordered two types of green vegetables. One was stir fry sweet potato leaves and another one was stir fry Lettuce aka 'yao mak'. Just a basic stir fry with garlic and oyster sauce but very wok-hei delicious. Love love love.

Initially, we thought 7 dishes were a tad too much for us all but we surprised ourselves by finishing them clean and clear. Looks like Chinese New Year had made us all big eaters. Haha. My youngest brother and I were chatting on how to foot the bill fast before parents did it, haha, we were successful. We paid while they were still eating. The price were reasonable, that's the benefit of eating at small low-key Chinese restaurant, you did not need to pay like bonanza. We definitely would come back again.

The brother who served us that night! Bon appetit!

We truly enjoyed our dinner!
