Trying JIPINHE scones for the first time

We were walking around last week at Mid Valley mall, Kuala Lumpur to find small snacks for take-away as earlier on when we were having lunch at Nyonya Colors, the youngest son only got to eat some kuih and few mouthful of soft-boiled eggs. Husband asked whether would he be interested in scones. I was thinking of the usual teatime scones whereby we eat with cream and raspberry jam, but husband said this one was special. He brought us there.

JIPINHE SCONES

Reading the name of the shop, I straight away know this is Chiense snack. It already sounded special to me and usually I wanted to know what was the meaning of the name.
JI = 吉= lucky
PIN = 品 = tasty/delicacies
HE = 合 = combined

So, I guessed this is lucky combined with tasty food. A good combo, right?

Let's see the menu.

They have classic noodles, highly recommended by the person at the counter, saying their noodle was freshly made, handmade too. But I told him, I wanted a snack, easier for packing and taking away. So he knew I was looking at the scones.

Their scones were also freshly madr dough daily, a popular traditional Chinese handmade street snack. I asked him what were the non-spicy ones. He said I could choose wither New Orlean Chicken or Savoury Shrimp and Chicken. I did not know how they tasted so I bought both.

While waiting for my snacks, I took interest at the workers working behind. Geared up my courage to lift up my hands to take pictures of them too. Once they noticed I wanted to take photos, they looked away. Lol.

He was kneading the dough and then flattered it to fill up the filling.

She was helping with the ingredients as well as preparing the noodles.

The oven where they baked the scones.

I also went and look at the customers eating there to see their reactions. Most of them ordered the noodles and one of then was fanning herself and kept saying "too spicy". I guessed she took the spicy noodle.

My scones were ready!

Super duper fragrant. I almost wanted to bite it while still hot. But I wanted to save them for my son.

The packaging looked simple and nice. Just the correct one for on-the-go snacks. I couldn't wait to try when reached home.

Upon reaching home, I took them out and place on the plate. The scones were actually huge. Each around 10-12cm diameter. Cut them into halves for easier biting.

You could tell from the photos that the scones dough were really well done. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. A nice combination with the meat filling. Superb idea of making this Chinese scones. Super generous with the meat fillings too.

Overall, we reallyyyy loved the New Orleans chicken. It was sweet sauce based kind of braised chicken, so the chicken bites were soft and juicy. The Savoury Shrimp and Chicken one was abit dry and the chicken and shrimp looked like grilled or roasted type, not much sauce. So ended up, my youngest son finished the whole New Orleans one and I ate the other one shared with my husband. I would definitely visit again to try their noodles.
