Filipino Chorizo for Alfresco Breakfast

I did not have breakfast before attending the mass celebration so after that, I looked for nearest restaurant. Most nearby food hubs are cafes but this Valley Bread also serve meals so I got inside then down to their basement where dining is alfresco.

The whole dining area was vacant. Well, people usually eat out for either lunch or dinner during Sunday so I owned the whole place that time.

A waitress came down from the ground floor and approached me with a tablet menu. I tried their chicken tapa (dried or smoked meat) before so I picked chicken longanisa breakfast this time. Longanisa is the Filipino version of chorizo. The breakfast set comes with coffee so I also ordered extra service water.

The waitress left and came back with the drinks. There were three packets of sugar and no creamer. I asked and the waitress came back with two packets.

After few minutes, my meal was served. According to the menu,the longanisa was made of ground chicken meat, minced garlic, black pepper, brown sugar and chopped chives. They forgot to mention salt which I tasted was little too much later.

The meal set was served with plain rice, scrambled egg whites, tomato and cucumber ensalada, pandesal (salted bread)and spicy vinegar. Pansedal is usually eaten with coffee as breakfast. In a breakfast set like this that already has rice, I really don't know what the pandesal is for. Appetizer or dessert? I smiled and thought of it as extender to the rice.

The condiment looked hot so I tested it first. I dipped the tip of the spoon and touched to my tongue. It wasn't hot. It was very hot! Well, maybe just for me who is not fond of spicy foods. I did not use it at all.

The bread felt toasted crispy. I was expecting a soft fluffy one but I guess they made it like toasted loaf bread for breakfast, except that it was pandesal. I wished it came with at least butter.

The rice was topped with chops of celery which I set aside because I am not a fan of the strong scent.

The scrambled white egg was fine. It was next to bland because the salt was too mild for me but it was a good supplement to the longanisa. I wished they scrambled with the egg yolks and not just the whites but this cafe is a bakery so the egg yolks have a lot of other uses.

The ensalada was not enough. I wished there were more. But what do you expect from a complimentary?

And last but not the least, the longanisa! I loved the grounding as it was very fine. Black pepper and garlic dominated the taste over the other ingredients mentioned on the menu. Maybe it just got blended well that its taste was unrecognizable. I was supposed to be dipping it into the vinegar but again, the condiment was very hot so I did not. Besides, it was already a bit salty which I compensated with the almost bland scrambled egg whites. I guess that was the the purpose of their combination.

Overall it was a good breakfast meal. My plate was clean when I left. Though I plan to try others on the menu if I get the chance to go back to that restaurant.

What was pandesal for? That was also in my mind upon seeing the food served to you..
I haven't tried eating scrambled eggwhites, maybe will try next time

I spared a little of the longanisa and used it as filling for the pandesal to make it more enticing. 😄

Just egg whites look bland so I am not a fan of them but it can be really good depending on how it is prepared. Yes, you should try them too.
