Muses cafe and restaurant - Chania, Crete (Greece)

Hello food lovers! Today I am sharing with you some photos from Muses cafe & restaurant based in Chania old town that I visited in September this year.

I was on this trip with my friends and there was eight of us in total. On this particular day we split into two groups of four and I was in the first group. We hit the town earlier and went to explore a little bit just by walking around the old town, enjoying the city atmosphere, taking photos and just overall try to make the most out of our time there. Of course, with all that walking we became hungry and we just randomly decided to sit at the Muses cafe & restaurant for lunch. This place had a decent food choice which is something we were looking for just to make sure there is enough variety so that all eight of us can find something to eat. Muses also had a nice view even though the photo I took doesn't do the justice to the surroundings.

What we also needed after exploring the city wasn't only the food but also some coffee and a refreshing drink. I usually order frappe or cappuccino but in that moment I was feeling like getting something stronger so I went for greek coffee and an orange juice. This type of coffee is also common here in Serbia (I have this every day) but this particular one I honestly didn't like that much. Orange juice was nice though! While me and my group enjoyed our refreshment drinks, the rest of my friends joined us so we were ready to finally order food!

My choice was chicken gyros which is something I had so many times while I was in Greece! I think I could eat this all the time and not get sick of it. You cannot really see on the photo but this serving came with sliced tomatoes and cucumbers under all the meat, fries and pita bread. Serving size was nice, just enough for (hungry) me. Some of my friends had pizza, sea food or just a typical gyros like me. After our meal we got desserts and raki (alcohol drink served in small shot glasses) on the house which seems to be the usual Greek hospitality in restaurants. I didn't have raki but for sure I couldn't say no to the dessert. It was a very soft and yummy biscuit with a scoop of vanilla ice cream - so delicious!

Just before writing this post, I took a quick look at Tripadvisor and saw that Muses cafe & restaurant has very mixed reviews. Some people really didn't like it saying the food was bad and/or overpriced, staff was rude... But then there's people who really loved it and had a very good experience. For me personally, I would say staff wasn't rude but they also could be a little bit more friendly or smiley. We realized that the waitress was actually from Serbia so we got to talk to her, she gave some of my friends food recommendations and answered so many questions. I found the food to be good, tasty and filling. Dessert was so yummy and I guess the only thing I wasn't a fan of was coffee. Prices were okay, I guess you can find cheaper places but also more expensive. Location and view is incredible, as well as other restaurants and cafes in this area - because of the surrounding they all have pretty amazing views.

As someone who doesn't do regular cafe and restaurant reviews, I hope I did a decent job with this one and I hope you found this post interesting. Food and cuisine is a big part of any travel, a great way to be part of the culture and experience new tastes, ways of preparing food and maybe even get some ideas to bring home for your own food recipes. Thank you for reading! :)
