Last week was my big sister's birthday and this year my folks happened to be in town with us, so my sister got her turn to pick out where to celebrate her big day. For celebrating in our family, a simple dinner is enough.
After 30 minutes of pushing through traffic in the city, we arrived at...
🍴 the Restaurant 🍴
The place is called "Drum B.B.Q", where my sister has come with her friends a couple of times already and she guarantees that it's good.
Walking in, I can feel how they've tried to decorate the lights with the spirit of Christmas. Ho ho ho 🎅
It was kinda dark. Well, it was 7 pm. at the time we arrived there, however, it was not so many lights. Plus, my iPhone couldn't bring up much light in the dark. Maybe it's time for a new one?
We chose to sit outside, so the airflow should be better and hopefully, our hair will be less stinky (than it is normally supposed to be) after the smokin' BBQ. 😂
🍽 the Table and the Menu 🍽
One must-have item of a B.B.Q. place is the grill. This is ours, both the table and "the" grill.
The menu looked pretty legit. Lots of meats, beef, pork, chicken. They also have some more special menus that can be somewhat rare too, i.e. the tongue and the intestines, which is totally my thing (to order).
Apart from the meat menu, there are many typical Korean menus to order; for example, Kimchi, Soft Tofu Stew, Kimbab, and the fried rice menu.
Once we ordered, what came to our table first were...
🍽 the Side Dish 🍽
The most common and must-have side dish we need for the Korean BBQ is the vegetables (Salad, Lettuce, etc.) and the dipping sauce.
The second important must-have thing is GARLIC. I know, you probably be like what? But let me tell you how important garlic is to the BBQ... later in this post. 😁
Then we were swarmed with various side dishes, which I can't name all either. Each Korean BBQ place will have different menus too. I don't eat them much, since I'm more focused on the meat. However, to show you guys how it looked. Some of them are fish balls and some are Kimchi, potato salad, etc. If anyone knows, please help me out.
🥓 the Grill 🥓
Once the staff opened the grill, they'd put hot coals in there. In my opinion, coals are best for a grilling meal. There are too many electrical grills lately and it's just not as good and original as this.
🥓 The Meal 🥓
Building up to the moment of the ordered MEAT was being brought to the table. We had from left to right: the intestines, the tongue, the pork belly, the ribs, the sliced beef and the steak
We grilled, we ate, we drank, we cheered. Just having great food and a good time together as a foodie family.
The best way to have a Korean BBQ is to grill the meat. In my family, we like to do it on our own, but normally the staff will help do it for you. Since most of the time, the piece of meat is so big that you have to cut the meat with scissors. It can be a little messy there.
Grill it how you like it. Our family preferred it from medium rare to rare. Sound barbaric, right? 😂 Then you dip the piece of meat into the sauce, place a piece of garlic in there which balances the flavors of eachother and it's so good, and finish up with wrappings with the vegetables I mentioned; either Salad, lettuce, and just like that. It's the Korean BBQ.
We also ordered (left) Bibimbub, the spicy Korean-styled fried rice, and (right) the raw meat salad. Two dishes I only had a bite, since my full attention was on the juicy grilled meat. It was really... as good as my sister claimed.
No desserts today, the meal had filled all the vacant space in our belly already. (as you might have guessed) That's my post for today. Thank you for joining us for my sister's birthday. Oh! look the birthday girl also came by to say goodbye today.
Stay hungry and keep finding yummy food, fellow foodie

We often go for BBQ when it's someone's birthday in my family so I know the feeling very well ♥️ too bad it's been already a while since someone's birthday and your post makes me very hungry haha
Next time I'll try to do better and take more pictures of the food too. Too hungry and too distracted with the meal this time.

Barbeque is the most exciting way to enjoy food in my opinion. Yes, enjoying together with those closest to you with delicious meat and vegetable treats is enough to help make our mood happy.
Yes! mine too. Just never put it out in words like that so I'm glad that you speak my mind too.
That raw meat salad would make a killer meatball if you left it on the grill for a while lol
You think so? Haha maybe I'll try it next time.
