QUAIL EGGS | Homemade Kwek-Kwek

in Foodies Bee Hive3 years ago (edited)

It was Saturday afternoon when we craved to eat something that we used to eat when we were still leaving in our beautiful hometown, a street food known as Kwek-Kwek or Tukneneng. Since we prefer to stay at home most of the time now, we thought of preparing or cooking it. Since we were given hundreds of quail eggs a few days ago, then it was just perfect for the idea. We just bought the other ingredients in the grocery nearby.

INGREDIENTS

Coating
.20 pcs quail eggs
.1 cup all-purpose flour
.1/4 cup corn starch
.1/2 tsp baking powder
.1 cup water
.Salt & Pepper to taste
.(no food coloring available)

Sauce
.onions
.garlic
.chili
.5 tbsp brown sugar
.240 ml water
.1 tbsp soy sauce
.mixture of 1 tbsp cornstarch, 1 tbsp all-purpose flour, and 1 cup cold water

PROCEDURE
.First, the quail eggs were boiled for 3 minutes. Then they were soaked in cold water.

.After how many minutes, the eggs were peeled or shells were removed, and set them aside.

. In a bowl, 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup cornstarch, 1/2 tsp baking powder, and 1 cup water were placed and mixed. Enough salt and pepper were also added.

.Then in an extra container, enough amount of cornstarch was placed. And, the peeled eggs were transferred into this container and rolled until each of them was covered with starch. From there, each of them was transferred to the mixture, enough for the eggs to be coated.

.Then, it was placed in a hot pan with cooking oil and was cooked until golden brown.Once golden brown, took them from the pan and removed excess oil. Then, served it with a delicious sauce.

SAUCE
.In a hot pan with oil, saute onions, and garlic.
.Added 240 ml water, 1 tbsp soy sauce, and 5 tbsp brown sugar. Then, stirred.
.Mixture of 1 cup cold water, 1 tbsp all-purpose flour, and 1 cup cornstarch was added.
.Stirred it until the consistency slightly thickened.
.Then, chili was added.

Kwek-Kwek is one of our favorite street foods and it's quite famous here in our place. Others used chicken eggs, instead of quail eggs. Orange food coloring is also added, yet in our case, no food coloring available. Others incorporate seaweeds when they served this. It really depends on the person who prepared it if how he or she wanted the Kwek-Kwek to be eaten. There are also other ways to prepare a sauce or dip for this. This is really perfect for a boring afternoon with a cold beverage of your choice.By the way, the extra mixture for the coating was also fried. And, it tasted like a Tempura.😉
