Making salads using home grown greens

in Foodies Bee Hive7 months ago

We gathered some food from the garden and put it all together into a tasty meal. Adding a few different kinds of basil, some sugar snap peas and butter crunch lettuce and red lettuce. And then some store bought veggies were added as well but much of it is made from our garden.

The basil smells so amazing, its been getting stronger out on the deck and seems happy. Lots of it for us to pick and season the salad with. The lettuce we are growing as well has been getting big so it was perfect time to take some and make a salad.

The leaves right from the garden, they have some mud on them but we will wash all that off.

This is enough to make two big salads when we add additional vegetables.

I love the color of this red lettuce. Looking forward to trying out some other varieties next year.

And the purple basil along with the green varieties is very nice too. Soon we will make some pesto with lots of it that is growing.

Once the lettuce is washed off we pat dry them as well using paper towels. We leave it there until ready to add.

Its almost ready to build the salad, just need to cook the store bought veggies and make a dressing for the salad.

Using a vinaigrette we make a nice oil based dressing. Came out real tasty.

Its all ready to eat, we served it with some bread on the side to enjoy as well. Everything included in this salad is ground beef, bacon, broccoli, carrots, onion. And our own grown lettuce, sugar snap peas and basil.

The lettuce tasted so fresh, being picked just an hour before we ate it. So it was perfect and could not ask for much better. The peas we used are probably the last of this season that will grow, its getting quite hot and they have seemed to have stopped flowering now.

Tried to plant some vegetables in pots, didn't work out, apparently, it's not ideal to plant them where I did, inside the house.. Good for you for planting your food and bon appetite.

Looks so good 😋

It's a unit of food and seems to have a very good taste

It was quite tasty

Yes, friends... enjoy this food

The food looks tasty. ☺️
So, the proper way to eat the lettuce is to dry it with paper towel. I just learned it today.😊 Next time, if we try to eat lettuce we will use your process.😊

Thanks it was, you only need to dry them if you washed them like we did.

Ah. Thank you.😊 we used to eat immediately the lettuce after washing.😅

That salad looks delicious and i know that the satisfaction of knowing it was with vegetables grown by yourself makes it even more delicious.

Something I like about planting lettuce is that you can remove a couple of leaves and leave the rest still in the ground and it will continue to grow, it is a very grateful plant.

It sure does feel good to grow food to eat. Its the fruit of labor.. lol

So true, this is our first time growing lettuce. So hopefully we did not cut off too much. Hopefully it will grow back.

i dont know if you know this type of onion

but this is other vegetable that also grow back really fast and it is really good to have on your garden!!

it is delicious with soup and salads!

its scientific name is Allium schoenoprasum so you can research it

Ah yeah those are spring onions, we season meals with them. Though I prefer the root bulb but the greens are still nice.

Yeahh but cool thing about these spring onions is that you can cut it and they will grow again! i used to have a lot of these!

There is no greater satisfaction than being able to eat the food that we have planted with so much sacrifice.

That looks so, so good! Fresh greens out of the garden make the very best salads. My weather is now too hot for greens and the lettuces found in the grocery are a poor substitution lol.

Thanks, its been getting warmer here so maybe soon our lettuce season will be over as well. Then its time to focus on potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and maybe some melons.

Love seeing all the fresh goodies from your garden and I admire how much flavor and nutrition you can get from your own backyard. That salad looks delicious 😋😋😋

It sure was good and indeed I think its the best way to consume them.. fresh from the garden.

I wish I had the patience to garden like that! How did you learn to make your own dressing? It looks delicious.

Oh my partner made it.. They have been making dressings for years using balsamic vinegar.

YUM!!! Nothing like freshly grown veggies!
That is THE life, @solominer!!!

Sure is the nice, loving growing our own food.

Thanks, will do.

This is a victory for sure!!! Here still things are growing hehehhe

Sure is.. nice

How pleasant it is to be able to cook with food harvested by oneself. She had never seen purple lettuce. I liked the final result of the salad. Greetings

It is quite enjoyable collecting it and using it in meals.

Oh cool, yeah its a red lettuce.

Wow man that salad looks absolutely amazing. I wish I could grow my own veggies like that. For real, nothing beats the taste of freshly picked greens, especially when you've put in the effort to grow them yourself. It looks so healthy and so nutritious. Nice work good friend

So true, the taste is unbeatable when picked fresh.. thank you.

You're most welcome good friend, and also I see your support on my blogs and I'm super grateful for that

What amazed me the most about lettuce is how easy it is to grow. Very little effort to get lots of delicious salads. Your basil looks the best though.

It is nice to have it, my first year growing it and seems to be quite easy as you stated.

The herbs are quite happy.

The salad looks great. Health to your hands.!
Basils smell really great. It has a very intense scent. Basil leaves are very wide. The basils we have here do not have such broad leaves. We mostly dry it and use it as a spice.

Thank you, ah yeah there are different kinds of basil so maybe you have something different from mine.

This salad looks so amazing, colorful and healthy. There are many benefits of making something from homegrown veggies.
Enjoyed your post 👍

I think so too, eating home grown veggies is the way to go.

This salad looks tasty, and to think they most of the ingredients were from your garden is amazing.

Thank you, it sure was good.

Getting to eat produce from your garden is everything, putting the work out there and smiling eventually is so nice. In this situation you’d say “what you sow is what you reap”😃

It sure is nice, really glad to have these plants to harvest from.
