Hello all, hope all of you are doing well. I am currently out in Taiwan and eating from south up to the north of Taiwan. Have also taken loads of photos. But before I start covering the amazing food that can be found in Taiwan. There is a new restaurant that I manage to find while finding a place for lunch which can house my whole team of 20 people before we head out to the nearby clubhouse for a game of bowling for team building. Thai food always holds a special place in my heart. It is generally spicy and sour in nature, suits my palette but might not be the same for others. So let's get right on to some Thai food before I share on Taiwan food in subsequent posts!
The Place
I Love Sukhothai
Address: Limbang Shopping Centre, 533 Choa Chu Kang Street 51, #01-18, Singapore 680533
Notes on this place: The restaurant is actually found inside a neighbourhood shopping centre called Limbang Shopping centre. It is not located at the central area of the shopping centre but instead, the restaurant unit is found at the perimeter of it. So if you are ever lost or having difficulty finding the place, do walk to the perimeter and you will be able to find it.
Once you enter from the entrance, you will be greeted with loads of neon related decoration like the name of the restaurant and also when you cross the cashier area, it also have a rainbow coloured sign to brighten up your mood. The staff in the restaurant are also very welcoming as they made some quick arrangement to ensure all 20 of us will be able to sit comfortably.
Within the dining area, there was a large green wall which made us have the feel of eating in a garden. Internal decor wise, a very comfortable place for a nice meal that isn't cramp at all.
The Food
Now to the main highlight of this post, let's talk about the food that this restaurant serves. Quite simply, this is a place where you are able to find all your popular Thai cuisines such as Tom Yum Soup, Basil pork and even big meat skewers Moo Ping. The selection is huge with loads of items to choose from. I am very certain, there will be something in the menu that suits you.
And here's what my colleagues and I ordered for those sitting at the same table as me:
- Roast Pork
- Moo Ping
- Tom Yum Soup
- Stewed Eggplant (not my idea but someone else love it so we ordered it)
- Oyster Omelette
- A bucket of Thai Singha Beer
Most of it were very common Thai cuisine and had the expected Thai cuisine flavours.
Let's start looking at each of the food item closely as I review them
Roast Pork
A common dish to many races especially Chinese, whom are also the experts of creating this dish. The dish is prepared by treating the slab of pork with marinate and subsequently puncturing the pork skin for the skin to cackle when a double bake/roasting is applied to the meat. Good roast meat needs to have that wicked crunch when you bite down and this certain achieved it. Appearance wise it is similar to what the Chinese produce. But Thai being Thai, in the marinate, there is a hint of lemon grass in it that make the dish more Thai tasting. A very well done piece of meat where the lemon grass marinate somehow makes the dish not feeling too oily/fatty and it comes very a very nice crunch when we bite on the skin. Pricing wise is not expensive and worth you every penny if you love roast meat.
Moo Ping
This a fat piece of pork skewer with a very nice marinate that I always love to order. The taste is awesome and when you dip it in the Thai sweet chilli sauce provided, it immediately elevates the taste and adds on one more dimension of flavour. It is done well and tender with no signs of any tough meat. I would say one of the food that you should not miss out when you are here.
Tom Yum Soup
The most famous Thai dish everywhere. When you hear Thai food, you will sure to find this dish. This big steel bowl packs a punch and packs whole load of ingredients in it. From squid to mussels to thick pieces of fish, the owner is very generous with the portion and used really fresh ingredients. No complains, very heart bowl of soup that will ensure you polish up every bit before scooping a 2nd helping.
Stewed Eggplant and Oyster Omelette
I only tasted one of the 2 dish in the picture as you all know that I am no fan of eggplant. Comments from my colleague was that the eggplant is well cooked but not mushy. It is also done with a nice sauce that is spicy but not overpowering, relatively easy to eat. Though he had these comments, still a no go for me.
However, the oyster omelette was to the point, a huge fluffy egg with their special sauce which is slightly sour but very refreshing. Minimal fishiness can be felt from the oyster (probably the sauce is the key to this) and a very good dish to eat with rice. Taste was uniform across the egg suggested a very well mixed egg before frying. Generous portions of oyster as well as good control of the cooking.
Singha Beer
We also ordered a bucket of Singha beer as we normally would get some beer to toast everyone during events. Singha is a relatively light beer as compared to even Tiger or Heineken. Easy to drink with no after taste, if you prefer stronger taste then this is not for you.
Overall:
I Love Sukhothai is a hidden gem tucked away from mainstream food hunts and I would not have known about its existence if I am not in that area. It is also a cozy dining place that can house a generally mid size crowd. Taste wise all to the point and above average standards of Thai food I tasted. Recommend to come down and have a try if you love Thai food.
Closing
Thank you for coming by and reading my post. I am really glad to be able to share my food hunts and adventures with all of you. There are loads of nice food in my country and I am really feeling blessed. When I am back, Taiwan food to follow!
See you in the next post!
