For the first time, an AI-controlled drone defeated the top human FPV drone pilots. What this means for FPV drone piloting.

Eine KI-gesteuerte Drohne hat das erste Mal die besten menschlichen FPV (First Person View) Drohnen-Piloten besiegt.

In dem Video sieht man auch deutlich, wie schwierig es ist, eine FPV-Drohne zu steuern. Das hat zwei Gründe.

Erstens ist die Steuerung von FPV-Drohnen an sich schwierig, da man die Drohne mit zwei kleinen Sticks (Gimbals) steuert und dabei mikroskopische, chirurgische Bewegungen ausführen muss. Die Computerunterstützung ist bei FPV-Drohnen minimal, was die Steuerung ebenfalls erschwert. Grundsätzlich gilt, je mehr Computerunterstützung, desto einfacher wird es, eine Drohne zu steuern.

Der zweite Grund, warum es schwer ist eine Drohne zu steuern, sind die erforderlichen Reaktionszeiten. Da Drohnen wegen ihrer geringen Größe und dem geringen Gewicht, extrem agil sind, erfordern Drohnen sehr schnelle Reaktionszeiten, die oft bereits über den menschlichen Fähigkeiten liegen.

Das sieht man auch in dem Video deutlich. Die meisten Menschen können bei diesen Geschwindigkeiten mit einer KI nicht mehr mithalten.

Potentiell könnte man mit KI noch schnellere Drohnen fliegen und dadurch auch einen taktischen Vorteil erlangen.

Deswegen denke ich, dass in Zukunft die Steuerung von Drohnen zunehmend einer KI übertragen wird. Der Mensch wird die Drohne nur noch mit Missionszielen und Prompts steuern.

Auch bei den smarten Kamera-Drohnen bewegen wir uns in diese Richtung. Luftaufnahmen werden dann sehr einfach ausführbar sein, zum Beispiel mit dem Prompt "Folge mir und filme mich dabei". Follow Me Mode.

An AI-controlled drone has beaten the best human FPV (First Person View) drone pilots for the first time.

The video also clearly shows how difficult it is to control an FPV drone. There are two reasons for this.

Firstly, controlling FPV drones is difficult in itself, as you have to control the drone with two small sticks (gimbals) and perform microscopic, surgical movements. Computer assistance is minimal with FPV drones, which also makes them difficult to control. Basically, the more computer assistance there is, the easier it gets to fly a drone.

The second reason why it is difficult to control a drone is the reaction times required. Because drones are extremely agile due to their small size and low weight, they require very fast reaction times that often exceed human capabilities.

This is also clearly visible in the video. Most people cannot keep up with AI at these speeds.

AI could potentially be used to fly even faster drones, thereby gaining a tactical advantage on the battlefield.

That is why I think that in the future, the control of drones will increasingly be transferred to an AI. Humans will only control the drone with mission objectives and prompts.

We are also moving in this direction with smart camera drones. Aerial photography will then be very easy to do, for example with the prompt “Follow me and film me” Follow Me mode.
