Otra película a la que tenía grandes expectativas, debido a su nominación a Mejor Película al Oscar 2024 y que ganó la Palma de Oro en Cannes. Es una película francesa, pero con variados diálogos en inglés. Se estrenó el año 2023. Siendo su directora Justine Triet.

Another film to which I had high expectations, due to its nomination for Best Picture at the Oscar 2024 and that won the Palme d'Or at Cannes. It is a French film, but with varied dialogues in English. It was released in 2023. Its director is Justine Triet.

Sinopsis: Un día la familia de Sandra, su marido Samuel y su hijo Daniel, cambiará para siempre. Y es que Daniel al regresar de un paseo encontrará el cuerpo de su padre fallecido al costado de su casa. Desde ese momento las autoridades, luego de determinar su muerte por una caída, comenzarán a investigar si es una muerte accidental, un suicidio o un asesinato hecho por Sandra.

Synopsis: One day Sandra's family, her husband Samuel and her son Daniel, will change forever. Daniel returns from a walk to find the body of his father dead at the side of his house. From that moment on, the authorities, after determining his death by a fall, will begin to investigate whether it is an accidental death, a suicide or a murder made by Sandra.

La historia mostrará el preludio de la muerte, el hecho fatídico, el comienzo de las investigaciones, la acusación, el juicio y la resolución final. Si bien el comienzo es bien procedimental, es cuando llega a ciertos puntos del juicio, que el drama llega a puntos altos. Teniendo más bien un trayecto final más tranquilo.

The story will show the prelude to the death, the fateful event, the beginning of the investigations, the accusation, the trial and the final resolution. Although the beginning is very procedural, it is when it reaches certain points of the trial that the drama reaches high points. Having rather a calmer final journey.

En esta historia, no solo vemos el caso de un posible asesinato, sino la situación de una pareja que la vida los ha puesto contra las cuerdas, donde al tener caracteres que se han desarrollado sin encajar del todo, han visto que el conflicto es inevitable. También el hijo Daniel, al ser ciego por un accidente y la primera persona que toma contacto con el cuerpo, se verá involucrado, al punto que mucho de su testimonio será clave en el juicio.

In this story, we not only see the case of a possible murder, but the situation of a couple that life has put them on the ropes, where having characters that have developed without quite fit, they have seen that the conflict is inevitable. Also the son Daniel, being blinded by an accident and the first person to make contact with the body, will be involved, to the point that much of his testimony will be key in the trial.

Hay muchas capas y aspectos que tratan de abarcar esta historia, que si bien puede parecer demasiado, lo hace con una gran elegancia, sabiendo distinguir a los personajes y sus pesares. Lo único negativo siento que son los minutos finales, que ya alargan algo concluido.

There are many layers and aspects that try to cover this story, which although it may seem too much, it does it with great elegance, knowing how to distinguish the characters and their sorrows. The only negative I feel are the final minutes, which already lengthen something concluded.

Los escenarios, fotografía y edición son excelentes, dando esa capa de frío(o crudeza), con la que tienen que encarar la situación. La actuación de Sandra Huller es excepcional, la mejor del reparto.

The scenery, photography and editing are excellent, giving that layer of coldness (or rawness), with which they have to face the situation. Sandra Huller's performance is exceptional, the best of the cast.

Una película que disecciona no solo una caída de un cuerpo, sino a una familia en un punto de crisis. Muy recomendable.

A film that dissects not only a fall of a body, but a family at a crisis point. Highly recommended.
