Returning to Teaching Duties After the Christmas Holiday Break

in Education2 days ago

The Christmas holiday break is a cherished period for teachers, offering much-needed rest and time to reconnect with family and friends, also to wine and dine. The Christmas break also provides an opportunity to recharge and reflect on the successes and challenges of the previous term. However, as the holiday season winds down, the reality of returning to teaching duties sets in. Transitioning back to the classroom can be both exciting and overwhelming, As a teacher, you have no option but to buckle up, update your lesson notes, and prepare for resumption.

I woke up a bit late today, still feeling the holiday vibes. After completing my morning chores, I went straight to the bathroom, had my shower, took breakfast, and got dressed for work. I had arranged for a bike man to pick me up, so I waited for him. A few minutes after getting ready, he arrived. I hopped on the bike, and off we went.
About 15 minutes later, we arrived at school. It felt great to be back at work. The students were greeting me with cheerful "Happy New Year!" wishes. They seemed excited to be back and to see their friends and teachers again.
For me, it was nice meeting my colleagues after the break. We exchanged pleasantries and talked about how the holiday went. Afterward, we all headed to the staff room, called a few students to clean and arrange it, and got settled.

The school environment was a bit untidy and dusty, so we asked the students to help clean up briefly. Some students swept and mopped their classrooms, others cleaned and mopped the offices, while a few were assigned to do light weeding and clean outside the classrooms. Even during the cleanup, many students were happily chatting with their friends and some were playing around. The cleaning went on for a while, with more students still arriving at the school. The turnout was impressive, especially for the first day of resumption.

After the cleanup, we had a brief meeting with the principal. We began with worship songs and prayers, followed by a short message from the Bible, taken from Isaiah 43:18-19. The principal welcomed everyone, thanked the staff for showing up on the first day, and encouraged them to update their records, write their lesson plans, and actively engage with students to ensure the term's schedule is completed on time.

After the meeting, teachers returned to their usual tasks. Soon after, invigilators from the Local Education Commission arrived. They inspected the facilities, checked the attendance books to see which staff members had resumed, and encouraged the teachers to work hard and give their best to the students. After that, the teachers went back to their classes.

In conclusion, returning to teaching duties after the Christmas holiday break requires thoughtful preparation, a positive mindset, and a focus on fostering an engaging learning environment. By reflecting on past experiences, planning effectively, and building strong connections with students and colleagues, teachers can ensure a smooth and productive start to the new term. The new year is an opportunity for growth, innovation, and renewed dedication to shaping the future through education.

Overall, it was a great resumption day. Thank you for visiting my blog! Be sure to follow @nsigo1 for more exciting and insightful updates.
