Hello there, it’s me – Jo! How have you been, Hivers? It is my wish that you all be in your best state right now wherever you are. Well, as for me, we just started our practice teaching, can you believe it? It felt surreal. Time flies so fast indeed but honestly, while I’m drafting this, my mind is looking back at those years that have passed. We’re still far, but we are already far from where we first started. And I think that is what should matter. Anyway, be with me as I relive one of the most anticipated events as an English major!
Last April 2024, the English majors celebrated the much-awaited English Month Culmination which opened magical opportunities for all English majors at CTU-Danao to showcase their talents in the realm of storytelling and skills in literature. It was only a one-day event which was divided by a series of activities offering various choices for the learners to choose where they want to compete.
Morning Activities
Spelling Bee
The day started with the spelling bee contest participated by numerous English majors from 1st to 3rd year respectively. It was held in the AVR Room and began at 8:30 in the morning. The competition comprised of three levels and there was an elimination portion after each round. It was a nerve-wracking moment to see individuals getting off the ground and everyone was anticipating who would be the last man standing!
Quiz Bowl
Right after the Spelling Bee concluded, the Quiz Bowl immediately followed. Every year level was required to send their representatives to compete. Each group consisted of one representative per level and they battled for intellect about literature. The contest also had three levels: easy, average, and difficult. It was half a day full of entertainment with mind-boggling questions that truly unraveled the expertise of the learners in language.
Have I mentioned that we were required to wear Victorian-inspired costumes for the afternoon event? If I haven’t, then I’m telling you we were! And we loved it. After eating our lunch, we then prepared ourselves and dressed like we were in the Victorian era.
Outfit check! We loved the moment as evident in our big smiles! It was so nice to dress like this even once in our college life- we’re channeling our feminine side haha.
After that, we headed to SAC where the short play will be held. It was the highlight and the most anticipated event, I must say. Every year level except the 4th year sent their talented actors to compete and present their short plays. For our 3D section, the script was prepared by none other than, @stellappreciates which she drew inspiration from the short story, “The Canterville Ghost” by Oscar Wilde. The play they did was a mix of drama, suspense, and most importantly, a fun-filled all credit to the actors and the scriptwriter. Thereafter, the awarding also took place giving the winners and participants their certificates and medals for a job well done!
That’s us looking so invested in the short play haha, that's @abbysphere sitting beside me. All three plays were great and the actors did a very amazing job. The acting prowess was on the next level.
Afterward, we took a group photo together with my classmates. And of course, solo shots to keep a good memory in our gallery for the years to come. All in all, the event was successful and it was something we would take a trip back down our memory lane.
See you in my next blog. ❤️
