My Second Vibe Coded Mobile Game: DOOD KID MAN BRO -- Participating in the Doodles Farcade Game Jam

in GAME DEV15 days ago (edited)

The working title is subject to change. i would be interested in hearing if you can think of a better name for it.

The Farcade is hosting another Game Jam and this time the theme is Doodles Jam.

The prize pool is $5k in $DOOD token whatever that is, i really havent researched what that token is but its probably an EVM since thats what farcaster runs on.

update: Doodles seems huge.

I hope there are several winners to this and one person does not get the whole 5k. i feel like they should reward the community for participating over making the contest super competitive.

@rama-dev you should make something for this.

Since the farcade is really about vibe coding games, thats what im doing. i know you can probably make way cooler games and have more control if you know what you are doing more with coding, but coding video games is super time consuming and making all the other stuff that goes into a game is also.

For this jam they gave us some source material that we are supposed to use in the game. We can directly use these assets or draw inspiration from them.

i used the meditating guy as my main player character, and brought him into asperite to make him slightly animated.

these are all the things i animated.

i also added custom sounds when the player interacts with each of these.

i like being given restrictions like this for a game jam. as an artist i like restrictions because it forces me to be more creative.

while this cartoony art style isn't really my cup of tea, its fun to think of ways to use the subject matter.

i like the music that i made for the game too.

it turned out pretty nice. not too repetitive, but minimal enough to go with the meditation vibe of the game.

i use cursor as my AI code editor. i am editing the game as i write this post. I give it prompt, let it cook, and then come back and write a sentence here, haha.

some gameplay footage

4 days remain until the games are due! so if you have farcaster (formerly warpcast) then get cooking!

im pretty stoked on my joystick controls. i can definetely use this game as a sweet template to make something much cooler with cooler art.

I did use a really cool animation that you will see the background change to if you can progress the time to go beyond nightime. which is about like 5000 frames.

his name is @capn on farcaster and i think on twitter too. hes stoked that im using his work and im gonna send him some of the $ if i win any from this.

I'll let you know how i do in the game jam and i'll try to send some gameplay footage of the finished game. wish me luck!
