What's-Up Everyone! Its nice to see many new people posting great content to the ecoTrain community! You are posting excellent articles on a wide range of topics, and this week there is a focus on gardening, even if you don’t have a garden! There has never been a better time to grow your own food, even if its just a little. All who do grow food know the joy and fun of growing and of course harvesting your own produce at home. We also have some earthship eco-building updates from @stortebeker and myself (@eco-alex), and we also have a few posts with a more esoteric nature.

If you haven't seen our community before please do stop by and subscribe so you can see more great posts in your feeds.

Thank you to everyone who is posting to the ecoTrain community and helping to make Hive and this world a better place. If you are interested in off-grid living, sustainability, homesteading and similar topics please do post to our community to receive our support and up-votes. We up-vote most good post on these topics with at least 80% with our combined 50,000HP, and share them with other curators to help your posts get noticed.

Wishing you all a beautiful Friday and weekend wherever you are, and whatever you are doing.

Abundance on a Budget: How to Save Money on Fruits and Veggies

Do you have to be rich to enjoy fruitful abundance in your kitchen? Certainly not.

Here are a few tips how you can save money on food while enjoying fresh, vibrant fruits and veggies:

🍉 LOCAL AND SEASONAL: Imported pineapples are usually more expensive than local apples. No matter where you are located, going for the local as well as seasonal fruits often let’s you get more for your money.

🍌 BUYING BIG: Two papayas and a bunch of bananas? Not for me. I like to buy my fruits in larger quantities which allows me much better prices. Simply ask at your market and they might be able to offer a whole box of your favourite fruity goodies.

Mazunte Build - Epilogue

There are times you feel like the present situation is going to go on for ever and ever... and then suddenly you realize that it's about to be all over. The construction of our Earthship inspired tropical round structure with a reciprocal roof, and the Covid-19 crisis happened to coincide harmoniously. Since we could not leave as intended, we were forced to make use of the extra month of "quarantine" and finish the roof. On the other hand, as we were so focused on the build, we didn't have too much time to worry about the things outside of our control. Okay, we were low on beer for a short while, until we figured out how to circumvent the prohibition on alcohol that accompanied the local lockdown. And now, it looks like it's all coming to an end.

Now that we managed to reach our goal of putting the roof beams in place, some of us were all too eager to make a move. Stephane and Romain managed to book flights back to France, with an itinerary of five connections in six days. The rest of us remain here to admire our work, and do final preparations for closing the property for the rainy season when none of us is here. It's surprising it hasn't rained so far, though there is regularly thunder growling in the distance, and the constant humidity makes everyone wish it rained finally.

The Ozone Hole

https://images.hive.blog/0x0/https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/serialfiller

Today there is less and less talk of the so-called ozone hole.

Yet until a few years ago this was the bogeyman of all environmentalists.

Today there is much focus on other issues such as plastics in the seas, CO2 emissions and the greenhouse effect, but the ozone hole remains and is a fundamental problem.

Our atmosphere, among other things, has an ozone layer that is very important for maintaining atmospheric balance.

Ozone (chemical formula O3) is a natural gas that can absorb ultraviolet radiation from the sun, preventing it from reaching the earth in all its power.

If we were in a MARVEL series, ozone would be the SHIELD that protects humanity. It is in fact our shield against radiation. If, in fact, ultraviolet rays plunged into the earth without filters they would be a serious risk for us and for our safety.

It is therefore essential that there is ozone and that it is there in the correct measure.

PEAS, PEAS, AND MORE PEAS

This is a huge blessing!

This is actually our first year growing peas to eat here in the Ozarks. We grew some back in Wisconsin in 2014 or 2015, and last year we tried about six varieties here. While we ate the ones in Wisconsin, the ones here were basically a test to see which variety would do best, and then we let them all go to see to save them all. The Wando variety was the winner for us, so we started off with a lot of seeds for them this year. We are also trying a new variety as well, but those Wandos are cranking production into high gear right now.

Garden Nya - MV Vlog #1

Finally my first video uploaded on 3speak, Mobile Videography Idea during Enhace Community Quarantine for nature lovers , recorded in our garden, a bitter gourd and some flowers, bougainvillea plants, with diffent kinds of colors.

Many from other cities buy bougainvillea plants, use in the hotels, resorts, restaurants parks by the landscapers and property owners to design their places.

Self-realization means knowing about your self, and not about your name, profession, identity, nationalism, or anything. This can be done just by deep diving in your own's self and find out your own self by self-inquiry. You ave to dig inside yourself until you find out your true self. Once you do realize about your true self then there is nothing left to achieve after that, you ill feel complete and blissful about yourself and thus nothing else matters to you.

This image is an example that to start a crop at home, you don't need a large plot of land.

ecoVillages Journal #25: The EcoVillage Model Earthship

It's been quite a biotecture journey this past few weeks as I immerse myself in the design of a new earthship model to suit the harsh and very hot climate of Portugal. Biotecture is very different to architecture because there is a lot more consideration to the size, proportions, location, and overall functionality and performance. The easiest way to explain the difference is that a home built on biotecture will work autonomously to keep you warm, cool, watered and even fed at almost no cost, power or time and effort.

A home built with architecture principles does not (yet) even attempt to achieve this kind of autonomy or self sufficiency and instead rely on the grid to supply enough electricity and power to run the many high power systems that a normal home requires to stay habitable. Examples are air conditioning, heating (including burning wood) , and water heaters. Those three devices alone can use a combined power of up to 10Kw or more. Note that in Biotecture all these machines are replaced with natural systems that perform just as well, if not better, than these high cost, high maintenance systems.

The Purposeless struggle of Proving 'We are better than others'!

There's no place to deny we all try to do our best. Well, that's okay for me if anyone puts their 100% and more to be the best. That should we do actually. But maybe we can't show the real necessity of proving ourselves best. Because I believe there's no need of it. Yet we spend many of our productive time on this useless struggle.
