Peppers Planted, Bird Feed, Lower Garden Finished, Sprouts, Saw - Tuesday

in ecoTrain2 years ago

One of the rare foggy mornings yesterday. This year we haven't seen that many so far and it didn't take too long for it to burn off over the morning.

Once the sun was out I headed out to get the peppers all planted in their row. I had 16 to plant and the last couple of spots in the row are empty as there is a massive ant nest there that I abused with the hose. Hopefully it did a good bit of damage to make them move off away from the row.

After dropping R off for his last day of preschool I went to North 40 and got 3 more bags of bird feed to make sure to have enough to make it to next Thursday when I pickup the ton.

Once home I set to work on the lower garden. I got the fence posts pounded in and the stakes to hold the water lines in place then rolled out the fencing. It was from the big garden and was more than long enough to reach all the way round the garden.

After I picked the boys up from school they chose the seeds they wanted to plant in their rows and I wrote it all down on the plan before we headed down for them to plant. I helped R while J managed his on his own.

I took a bit of time to edit my planting plan template to reflect the new garden before transferring all the info to the new sheet. These plans are about the most handy and useful thing I have done over the years for the gardens. It is beyond helpful to be able to flip through my binder and see what I planted each year and where.

The birds are getting big. I picked up one of the ranger roosters and he was easily 6 or 7 pounds. We will be able to start butchering some birds within the next few weeks it looks like.

My sunflowers are coming up nicely and both rows are popping off. The giants are showing the size difference already compared to the smaller seed sunflowers in the next row.

The 2 beans rows are coming up in the pole garden as well but I am still waiting on the cucumbers to sprout and show themselves.

The peas are growing fast and I figured I needed to get the next row of fence on. It is only a 2 foot fence that went atop the 3 foot fence but should be enough for the peas.

I was wrapping the recently replaced cord for my miter saw and with the wire being thinly coated I slid a length of sleeving over it. The sleeve ended up being about 6 inches to long once I had the electrical tape wrapped around it. The wire is now far safer with much less chance of getting damaged.

Whatever this is has hit my sinuses and chest and I feel like garbage.

Today is busy. J has school, I have to get grain around 10:30, we all need to pack, R has a play date up at the lake at 11 after @stryeyz picks J up from school, then this afternoon we head to Ronan MT for the next week.

Sure hope you aren't sick during the week away....

It is lessening but still here. I need to mega dose vit c tomorrow while I herd the cows around the ranch. This year there is a herd here where 2 years ago there wasn't. Might make my wandering a bit more interesting.
