Plastic Recycling and Reuse
Do people know about this project? It is such a great project! In 2013, I was not in a good place - basically couch surfing, I was trying to go home to family for help and I stumbled on this project - right up my alley - Precious Plastic!
I immediately saw this as a great opportunity to create community around something so fulfilling and useful! To clean up plastic trash waste all over the world!
The Master Mind Behind Precious Plastic!
This guy, David Hakkens from The Netherlands, started Precious Plastic in his garage as part of a college project - and he is such a sweet, thoughtful person that he gave away all his machine-plans for free online. That was part of the project - to get people to see Plastic Trash as a FREE Resource that we could all chip in and use to make new products while cleaning up the EARTH!!!
The project grew and grew to many countries - not much in the USA, unfortunately - but in many other countries around the world, where there was not a glut of fake-green-paper and still some semblance of humanity.
What is Precious Plastic?
Basically, David created machines that sort plastic trash into it's correct kinds, other machines that then grind it up and then other machines that make molds for what this recycled plastic can be used for...the machines are very simple and he gave the plans on how to make the machines away for free...
Plastic is Now a Precious Commodity!
It is a free resource - available to everyone - if they are willing to put on their thinking caps and come up with ways to remake it into something PRECIOUS!!!
10 Years of Building An Infrastructure!
As David says in the video below - they are either on the brink of something big or they are done. They have spent 10 years creating community all over the world, perfecting the machines, coming up with products and all that is in place but now they are facing some big mountains and they are not sure whether to go forward or quit...
Now they are in trouble financially and have some other problems, which are referenced below the video, and are they going to survive?
I have wanted to be involved in this project since it started but I am very UN mechanical and also I don't know anyone who would want to be involved and I haven't got a place to do any of this stuff, so I have just been following the project as it goes along...
Once again, I checked the map for my location and I see one machine shop on a campus nearby that's involved but there is no contact information except the general one for the school - so once again - not someone I can join together with, sadly!
Where I live, all community that I know of has generally died out - so I am not sure if I can drum up any support for what they are doing.
So, I will write this post and maybe others will see the value and get involved!
