This is my first post in the #ecotrain community; I've been meaning to post here for a bit, thanks to a head's up from @cmplxty a bit ago. Well, I finally found something to share!

The city I live in initiated a "No Mow May" program this year. This is the first time I have ever seen a program like this, especially in this area. Spring is typically the time to put weed killers down and mow the yard to keep weed growth minimal. No one likes dandelions, apparently, so the chemical trucks are typically out year over year during the spring.

Not so much this year.

I did register our home with the city to join in on the fun. We're about halfway through May; so what does our backyard look like? This is the first time I've let the yard go this long with cutting the grass, so let's take a look.

This is a ground violet; I believe this is an invasive plant, but the pollinators do like it.

I'm not sure what these are, but they appear to in our backyard too. I'm guessing the pollinators will love this flower too.

There is the creeping charlie...my nemesis. I don't believe there is a lot of value to the pollinators with this plant, so I will work on removing it after this month.

Last, but not least, these flowers popped up out of the grown too. Again, I had no idea as I likely mow these over before they get too large. Hey, if they bees and the monarchs like it, I'm ok with it too.

Overall, I really like this idea that the city promoted this winter. How different of times we live in...years ago, this would have scoffed at by most dwellers of the city. Letting dandelions go? Letting ground ivory flourish? Nonsense...kill those weeds!

Today, there is a healthy contingent of citizens that are willingly letting their yards go to help out the pollinators. I think that's a cause most people can behind, and I'm happy to help out too!

Thanks for stopping by to check out my first post in the community. More to come soon!

Our local councils do this with the grass at the side of our roadsides. I love it when the wildflowers and weeds are allowed to come through. Some people think it's untidy but I love it. There's also people who think the Council are actually using it as an excuse to cut back on mowing to save money. There might be a little bit of truth in it. 😀

Oh that i believe, lol. There is a park near an old Native American effigy site that the city used to mow every week. Now it's a "prairie restoration" area, ie a site that no longer needs to be maintained. I always thought it was a way the city got around yard care, too

I'm always suspicious when they change their policies. There's always something in it for them.

Very beautiful photographs and very beautiful post overall indeed! Best of luck with best managing the flowers in your garden! All the best, much health, take care, stay safe, keep up the good work (here on HIVE and in general), many blessings, and great peace your way! God bless you! 😊🙏✌️☮️

Thanks for stopping by to take a look!

You're most welcome! All the best once again!
