Yesterday marked the launch of the Teken Field Tire Embankment Project, an initiative designed to educate over 600 young individuals from three schools and six football clubs on tire pollution and the utilization of tires as construction materials. The project also aims to construct a 150m-long tire embankment to act as a barrier, leveling the field and preventing erosion.

The project kickoff involved members of The Greens' team, young individuals from Teken and Alahlie community, and over 20 members of the Freestyle Sports Club. As the General Organizer of Freestyle Sports Club, the event also served as a warm welcome for myself and the President after an absence of over 6 months.

To lay the foundation for the embankment, a trench measuring 43 meters in length, 1 meter in width, and approximately 1.2 meters in depth was dug. The trench reached the undisturbed earth to provide a stable base for the tire embankment, projected to be over eight tire courses high (approximately 1.5m above ground surface).

The digging activities were conducted simultaneously with our regular Freestyle Monday soccer game. The soccer game concluded at 05:00 PM, while the young participants concluded the digging at 06:30 PM.

This Thursday, we will initiate the process of laying the foundation tire course, engaging students and pupils from three schools who will gain firsthand knowledge about using tires as construction material and experience tire pounding for the first time.
