LOH #216: My Make-Believe Talent

Greetings to my hive family,

Like other people, I have seen myself do several things, exhibit various talents with zeal and passion, among them are singing, dancing, counseling and the likes. The most lovely talent that I have and can use unconditionally, even without money is acting. Oh! I love acting so much and this was evident in several performances that I have taken part, right from my elementary school till now. I have always been a part of one drama group or the other. I have trekked both short and long distance just to act in schools, churches, crusades and other social gatherings even without payment.

Why acting? Acting gives me so much happiness and most especially, opportunities to be someone else in a make belief world. Sometimes, we wish we could be another person, maybe a richer person and acting provides a just platform for that at will. There, even when one is poor, one tends to live, walk, talk and act like a rich person. Sometimes also, a rich person could have been imagining the life of a poor person, how they cope and trying to fit in their shoes to know what they pass through. It's only acting that can do justice to such, making a rich kid instantly a poor person. In fact, through acting one could have a taste of different characters.

I remember how my boss at work was rescued from marrying a very rude and saucy lady that year. Thank God for his brother's acting skills. My boss was in love with a lady he just met and he really wanted to marry her barely a month after their meeting, but his friends advised against the move. They suspected the lady was double faced and they suggested a mini test for her. My boss' younger brother decided to act as the gateman of the company and stayed throughout the day the lady was expected to visit. Alas! It was the speak of the devil, the lady walked in without courtesy and spoke rudely to her unknown brother in law. Everybody was right! She was not who my boss thought she was. Thanks for the little acting put up to unravel the misery behind the beautiful lady.

The fulfilment that acting brings to me is actually more than any reward. When I act, I'm not only edifying myself. Through acting I'm able to teach some moral lessons, preach against social vices, gladden the hearts of people and entertain them in one way or the other. All this gives me joy unspeakable. Also, my ability to switch from who people know me to be, to a more different version of myself makes me so happy. Acting brings out the versatility in me. Many people know me as a quiet and reserved person, but I'm different on stage. I could be anything else, depending on the role giving to me.

The use of costumes also intrigues me so much that I don't mind the number of roles, I'm asked to take. Costumes changing was so easy for me, so far it's for the betterment of my role and perfect delivery. At times, I would act as a doctor and wear their uniform. The first day I acted as a barrister and put on their wig was unforgettable. I look so much like a real lawyer, that very day, I looked at myself in the mirror and said to myself, 'You will make a good lawyer.' acting like an angel is on another level. Acting is so beautiful. Even when no reward is involved, beautiful scenes like dining session; eating scenes can be so fun and lively that one may have to do justice to rice and chicken that one never had the privilege to eat in real life.

Despite the fact that such scenes rarely come up, I can still be on my feet for long hours acting and putting in so much energy and positive vibes. Acting unleashes so much potentials that I never knew existed in me.
