RE: Market Friday: Guo Pei's Couture Fantasy, Part 2

in Ladies of Hive2 years ago

Have you ever seen a show that was so brilliantly crafted? She has been lauded in many circles, calling her a couture fantasy, the way she fuses many different influences created by her unconventional techniques. The embroidery is stunning - so very intricate in the workmanship. The shoes are a Chinese specialty!

Han Chinese women of the upper class were binding their feet for more than a thousand years. This method resulted in small and deformed shape. A woman with bound feet could not engage in hard labor so had to be of high status and wealthy. The Manchus, which conquered China in the 17th century and ruled as the Qing dynasty, forbade their women to bind their feet. However wearing elevated shoes made the wearer walk in small steps characteristic of women with bound feet and when worn with long skirts the wearer appeared as though having bound feet. Elevated shoes also made Manchu women tower over the subjugated Han Chinese. The pedestal were usually cover in white cloth so their could easily be whitened again. source

How lucky you were to attend such an extravaganza!! Thank you so much for sharing it with us!

I'm still dreaming about those embroidered dresses!!! WOW, it was so mindboggling.
The one I'll sow on the third of this series, it took years to complete! Such dedication to her craft.
Those clothes are h-e-a-v-y, and I can just imagine it being worn and shown by ultra-thin ladies!
But her "regular" evening wear are so elegant! And. light! Hahaha!
Thanks for coming, @dswigle !
I love #marketfriday! And no atter how busy I am, I will surely use the tag! Heck I can use it everyday!

Thank you so much, seriously. I have no idea where you get your time from, but, it takes me forever to write my many comments. I know you are busy too!

This was in April, wasn't it? Her unique style! It takes her so long because of all the handwork and dreams that go into creating these pieces. I am sure you have worn beaded dresses! They are heavy! I have worn a few and the one thing I always forget is the effort it takes to carry yourself around all night. LOL

Thanks for joining in the challenge!

The exhibit is still ongoing. I went last week. I think it goes till first week of September.
Yeah, I post on a schedule. And on weekdays, I respond to comments the day after... sometimes I get lucky, like today! I did yesterdays and todays. Hahaha, I don't get as much comments as you do!

That is pretty awesome! I wish I could get ahead enough to schedule It is great that you can!

I do get a lot of comments, but, I am not complaining just wish I could get ahead!
