Going Solo [I Think You Will Love It Too]

in Ladies of Hive2 months ago

Traveling solo can be daunting, especially when we have never done it before. But it can also be exciting and thrilling. Before my first trip overseas in 2003, I never traveled alone locally. Someone was usually with me when going to other places. So embarking on a trip alone to a foreign land was a new experience for me.

While it was a bit scary to be boarding the plane without knowing anyone around me, the excitement was greater. I didn't know what to expect but somehow managed to adapt quite easily and haven't had any issues or problems from my departure to the layovers. The whole duration of the flight was quite an adventure, if I may say so.

That first solo trip made me discover that it can be fun and thrilling to explore alone. I loved it. Even gained more self-confidence which somehow prepared me for the succeeding years when my job included traveling to places without any companion.

Anyway, if there are things that I could share when going on a trip, especially overseas, they are the following (based on personal experiences):

Before your scheduled flight, get to know some basic information about the country where you are headed. Check what the weather is like on the day of your arrival so you will know what type of clothing to bring with you and wear during your trip. You don't want to be arriving at a hot place all wrapped up, do you?

I had a funny (not so) experience when I traveled to Hong Kong in one February. They said it was going to be cold but I downplayed it and wore a thin cardigan. Guess what? I was shivering the whole time I was at the airport (going through immigration, etc). I had to buy a jacket from a shop close to my hotel because I didn't have anything thicker in my luggage, lol!

That brings me to the next tip - make sure to have enough cash or a credit card that is accepted internationally. You want to have something ready when a need arises.

Also, remember that electrical sockets or outlets might be different from your country's and the place you're going. I think it is wise to bring your own power adapter so you can easily charge or plug your gadgets (although most hotels have outlets for different types of plugs).

And be careful too when using any of the outlets in your hotel. Check if the voltage is compatible with your devices. I almost plugged my laptop (220V) into a 110V socket which could have damaged it.

If you're going to a place where there can be a language barrier, make sure to have a translator app on your phone. It will come in handy. This I learned from my experience when I traveled to China and discovered that not many people spoke or understood English at that time.

Finally, do not overthink or worry too much. Trust yourself and enjoy your adventure! You will love it! And yes, learn to talk or chat with strangers. Even an introvert like me did that and made friends in the places that I have been to.

I do believe that one should experience going on a solo trip, even once in his/her lifetime. It awakens and enriches one's soul. It helps us become more independent and grow as a person.

So go on, embark on that trip, and feed your soul!😉

This is my participation in this week's LOH prompt. Thank you, Nainaztengra for your amazing questions :)

Sometimes though travelling can really be demanding at times if we should consider other aspect but it can really be fun also sometimes

It can be but it's thrilling and fun to discover something new and even meet new people and learn about other things.

It’s fun to travel with friends but sometimes going alone can be fun too!
Kinda scary but it’s something one should do, you know step out of the comfort zone and try to be independent. 😅

That's very true. It's one of those things that we need to experience to find something more about ourselves and the extent of our courage 😊

Ah, I am used to travelling alone, locally. Like it was never a problem to me as long as I have money.

Yet, the first time I traveled abroad, I was alone. But hubby was there, waiting for me at the airport.

Still, it was thrilling I agreed! Arrive at NAIA too early 🤣

That's awesome sis, at least sanay na sanay :) And arriving at the airport too early is better than going late at naghahabol ng flight haha.

I love to travel alone but I’ve never traveled by plane. I also do not think I’d love to travel alone by plane. That will be a scary adventure so I’d be needing someone around me

You might think it is scary to be traveling alone by plane but per my experience, it isn't :) It can be surprising when we find out that what we think is quite the opposite hehe.

Sanay na Rin ako mg travel mag ISA. Pero Hindi ako aware SA power voltage Ng MGA outlets. Buti na Lang sinabi mo. Salamat♥️. Minsan Kasi Hindi ako masyadong Ng pay attention.

That's good. Maganda yung independent tayo, hindi mamroblema kung may gustong puntahan or gawin :)

And oo, muntikan na kasi masira yung laptop ko haha. Buti napansin ko agad bago pa umusok, lol! 220V din ata dyan sa Taiwan noh?

Thank you 😊

I have never visited in a foreign country but I hope in the future I will get the opportunity. Before going to a foreign country we need know well about the environment of there otherwise we may face difficulties to adapt. I think because of translator we can easily communicate with anyone. That's the good thing of developed technology.

I wish you the best and hope we get to read about it when you do ;)

The translator would be very helpful indeed. 2 decades ago, I had to rely on sign language and my very little Mandarin 😂

that's why in my recent article about my solo travels to 5 countries in 2015, number 1 tip is to have lots of money, and invest money before going on a big trip. get debit cards and be lucky if you have a credit card. hehe

Aha! Having lots of money would be a plus :) And yes, debit cards or credit cards are a must, unless you want to carry everything in cash which to me is not really a good idea :)

That's a very good advice, trust yourself and enjoy the adventure. Yes, it's nice to have a checklist before leaving and doing a thorough study of the place, also studying the weather of the place is important so that you carry the right clothing. Thanx for sharing your experience and I am glad that you enjoyed your first solo trip experience.

Thank you. We do learn something from experiences :)

It has really been a while I experienced a long travelling or journey but hoping so

Hope you get the chance soon, all the best !LADY

This is a beautiful tip that someone needs to hold dearly whenever embarking on a trip and I always found it somehow bored traveling alone. I didn't know why?

@ifarmgirl, You have received 1.0000 LOH for posting in Ladies of Hive. We believe that you should be rewarded for the time and effort spent in creating articles. The goal is to encourage token holders to accumulate and hodl LOH tokens over a long period of time.

Where have you gone?

I have been abroad many times, and yes the electrical sockets are pretty annoying, expecially from like Europe to Mexico, exchange money is an other issue, I had to get dollars out of euros

!PIZZA

Yeah, different countries seem to have their preferences when it comes to electrical sockets. Exchanging your own currency to another can be quite a hassle, especially if you had to do it in the bank. Thankfully, there are lots of exchangers these days.

I haven't gone to many, just a few trips to NZ, HK, China, the Mariana Islands.
