Living life as it is today, very fast, it makes it hard to remain healthy eating habits, at least for me. Healthy food is also more expensive here, so for many gets even harder because of that. As for me, I always had a love and hate relationship with food. Let me explain. Even since I was a kid, I wasn't a fan of eating. Sometimes I would sit though lunch to dinner, because I didn't want to finish my plate. With time, I started to eat 'mechanical'. Food didn't represent much to me, and I ate it because I had to. With years, this remained the same, with exception of the things that I actually like to eat.
What makes it worse, my favorite food, of course, it not the healthiest one. I love pasta, potato in many different ways, and cheesy food. I could eat cheesy pasta or potato every day, for the rest of my life. But I am very lucky, and even with bad choices of food, my metabolism is very good, and I don't gain too much weight anyway.
But I do know how eating is important and how healthy eating can improve us in many ways. So, for the periods of time, I do focus on healthy eating. I make smoothies, oat meals, soups, food with less fat, I avoid bread and pastry. For me, this is also not so hard, because I, in fact, do eat most of the food and even if I don't prefer it, I will just eat it mechanical.
What is also important, is to make food out of good products, and that is also hard. Even if you buy fruits and vegetables, it's important to know the quality of it. This is why I am very lucky, to be from small town and have grandparents in the village, so many vegetables and fruits, we have fresh and from home, so we know it's the best. This is tomato from our home garden.
Last days we had holidays so it was food fest and eating more than usual for days. Also, if I have days that I feel down, I always think that a bag of chips or ice cream will make it better. And it maybe will, but just for very short. These days are not so often (usually comes one time a month, ladies will understand), but I do tend to eat what I crave in those days, as they don't happen too much. How holidays looked like:
All in all, I wouldn't say my eating habits are too good, but also not too bad. I do eat a lot of good quality products as they come from our home, and I do eat a lot of different foods.
I work from office and I tend to bring oat chia meal, to have something healthy and prepared, or I make a smoothie. I eat just my breakfast at work. But as bakery is just below the office, sometimes I can't resit that smell.
Most important is to have balance in everything. Eating healthy is good, but we should give ourselves a break, if needed, and have some comfort food, in my opinion. But as my holidays are over, I will try to go back to more healthy diet, and it started today, with light but nutritious lunch, fish and boiled veggies.
