Hi Everyone,

Living in Japan means we try to be like a local. This also means we try to avoid any touristy places on a weekend. For the past 2 months, we have been going to the outskirts of Osaka to visit various large shopping towns to get away from the crowds in the city just like the locals. Families will bring their families to Aeon Malls, a larger type of shopping town to spend the day there.

We get recommendations from local friends and we just go explore. One of the weekends, we were at a mall 45 minutes away from Osaka by train. We first came across a boy band performing for their fans and we stayed around for a song a two before looking for some lunch.

This shopping centre had a large Muji, one which is 5x bigger than the usual ones we've seen in the city. The kids were so tired of us looking for homeware that they decided to chill and be on their phones. We noticed most kids are similar, play or watch on a device while the parents go and do their shopping. This also allows the parents to shop in peace and know the kids are in one place. Muji is a great place to get high-quality items which I will share at later post what we have purchased or seen that we don't get in Australia. We normally spend a good amount of time going through things as we don't get them back home, so it's great to find new products.

After our shopping, we normally grab some afternoon tea and, in most cases some dessert. This time, we found a nice local dessert shop to try at the food court. This shop has a mini line formed so I guess it is a great find. A dessert like this with the mochi was around 800 yen which is a steal. Something like this (not even this quality) in Sydney would set you back at least $16 which is double the price.

We've been to so many shopping towns and centers on the outskirts we feel like we know how the locals live and where they hang out. Definitely don't see foreigners like us so we do get the smile when we start to speak our broken Japanese. Or when BB M or E start speaking in English, they find them cute according to the locals.
