How I teach Yoga online, pron and cons

in Ladies of Hive3 years ago

Life tends to lead us to unsuspected paths… As a Yoga teacher, I start to get more series with teaching at the end of 2019, and then, Covid hit. Face to face Yoga wasn't an option. And that was all I know...
I wasn't so sure if an online platform will be good for me, as I am not a very ‘Hi-Tech’ person. I was afraid of this unfamiliar land. But, a big but, I won’t let things that scare me to bloke my way. The opposite is true, and where I see fear this is the direction I go to.

               ****So teaching online it is!

It takes me some time to find the right way for me to do it, and today I want to share it with you. I am teaching priviest students, but I believe this method can work very good for groups as well.

I use Google Meet, this is a free app or a website. It is just like Zoom that you get a link to shear and you are ready to go. You can start a meeting or scduall a for a later time.
• I connect my computer to the router, this way I am not on WiFi and the internet is much better
• I bought a nice 1018p webcam so the student can see me in good quality.
• For the lesson itself, I am sitting in front of my computer and I will guide and host the lesson from my chair. This means I am not demonstrating the movement, rather giving verbal cues to guide the student through the movement.

Pron:

• the student doesn’t need to look at the screen and he/she can focus inward on their own body.
• Verbal cues will help improve the student internal understanding of a movement and to find it in his/ her body.
• We each can be anywhere on the globe with an internet connection.
• Flaxebule hours, one hour of movement without the need to go anywhere.
• lower price for a private class.
• The student feel more relaxed in his/ her home, that it is a safe and familiar space.
• You don’t need to look around at what others are doing, or how nice it looks when the teacher does it. Fewer distractions.

Cons:
• Technical problems. The Technolgy is a blessing and she is very good, but sometimes there are difficulties.
• I can’t hear the breathing of the student
• I can’t do any hands-on adjustments.

With the pros and cons in mind, I find it to work so so good! Even with brand new students that are learning it all from scratch. It is very fun and I can feel the connection and the students through this medium.
As a teacher, I am learning a lot from guiding without demonstration and I found it very much a student-centre approach, and that I give them more in this way of teaching.

Thank you for reading so far!
If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
And the most important thing is to keep on moving!
Much love, have a lovely day.

Does someone know why my points turn to be with this gray background and that you need to move to the side to read it? Why is not just regular? Any advice?
