Ecencials, our latest update introduced a completely new, user-friendly interface for creating communities on Ecency. This upgrade makes it easier than ever to build and manage your own space on the blockchain.
Whether your passion lies in photography, food, technology, travel, education, or you're looking to build a space for your activism or a local initiative — Communities give you the power to bring like-minded people together.
If you're ready to build a space for your hobby, a specific topic, or even a movement — follow this step-by-step guide to get started:
Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Community on Ecency
1. Log In.
Visit on ecency.com and sign into your account.
2. Navigate to the Communities Page
- Click on the Communities tab in the main menu.
- At the top right, you’ll see a Create Community button — click on it.
3. Enter Your Community Details
Fill out the form with the following info:
Title – Pick a unique and descriptive name.
About – Briefly describe your community’s purpose.
Community Type – Choose the format that best fits your goal:
Topic – Everyone can post and comment.
Journal – Only approved members can post; guests may comment.
Closed – Only members can post or comment.
4. Create Your Community
After entering your details:
- A unique community username and password will be generated — make sure to save them securely.
A unique community username (hive-xxxxx account name) will be generated by the blockchain. This name is what allows the blockchain to recognize this as a community account.
- Click Continue to proceed.
Note : Creating a community requires 3 HIVE, which helps prevent spam or abuse.
5. Confirm the Operation
You’ll be prompted to confirm the creation using your Hive key (Active key or Keychain).
6. Customize and Manage
Once your community is created, you can start setting roles and updating settings.
Community Roles Explained:
Owner – Can assign admins and oversee the community.
Admin – Can update settings and assign moderators.
Moderator – Can manage posts, mute users, pin content, and more.
Member – In restricted communities, must be approved to post.
Guest – Can interact in Topic communities and comment in Journals.
You can also define community rules to help guide member behavior and maintain a friendly, respectful environment.
As you go through each step, a helpful sidebar on the left side of the page will show your progress and instructions — making the process easier to follow.
Once your community reaches 100 members, you become eligible to register as an Ecency-supported community. After registration, your community will earn 20 Points every time a user publishes a post to your community via Ecency. These Points can be used in various ways — such as receive delegation from Ecency, offering contest rewards, or tipping active members to encourage engagement.
Start building your community today on Ecency and empower your audience with decentralized tools!

So I could make a community over a film I make? Update with ideas and questions in to the community, get feedback and share ideas, show production BTS and then the final film.
How visible are these community outside of Ecency?
Communities are visible from other front ends! The challenge is making people aware and getting members. Once you have 100 members you can become an Ecency supported community and earn Community Points. Good luck building and promoting your new community!

It is set in stone, cannot be changed 🙂
