Reward pool on Hive has always been a controversial topic with drama surrounding it. All for good reasons because people have tendency to extract and abuse as much as they are able. Bidbot era was most abuse period and made a lot people rich but also hurt entire ecosystem. After couple hardforks, things are working much better now.
It allowed many more curation projects to be established and build communities. Almost all discord servers have promote post page where countless people had to install and signup for discord if they wanted to be part of Hive and promote their content. Which is weird, isn't it, people came to decentralized platform but we asked them to signup on discord also. Discord does provide good set of toolset for managing communities until we build our own system. Our Ecency server wasn't exception, dozen post links submitted into post promotion channel and we did our best to curate authors based on quality and consistency.
We also wanted to make sure to give people the option not to go to discord, but to be able to submit their posts every time they publish a new post.
Also we wanted to utilize our Pointing system to some extent and allow people to submit their post so our curators can review it. By the way, you can earn points just by using Ecency.
So why not put them into use and people could simply submit their post from website and mobile app without going to discord. That's what we did. We have posts channel as well which our curators see every post made and they curate content from there as well as from boost requests. Sounds great, right? Some extra gamification on top of what Hive has to offer. Not exactly. Other curation projects started to find faults and call it bidbot even though it is not different than just going to discord channel and submit your post in hopes someone will see and curate your post. Or not different than reaching out to friends and ask for vote/comment, etc.
Our curators are all volunteer and every month we ask community members to join and help curation effort. We have diverse group of people in curation who try their best judgement when curating content, just like any curation project on Hive. These are active people making content and building communities, so their volunteer effort is motivated by goal of making Hive better place.
We don't know what methods other curation projects use to evaluate their curators or content, but we had simple rule, make sure content is original and encourages engagement. No matter which app was used to publish given content. Don't judge, inspire/encourage.
Boosting content never guaranteed any curation/vote, it was just ticketing system or queueing system where you could put your post into our discord without going to discord. Our curators would see those boosted content in separate channel and evaluate just like they evaluate other content.
Points have other use-cases as well which is not topic of this particular post but we created it to be useful and extra encouragement when using application. Points can also be purchased from in-app purchase via Apple AppStore and Google Playstore payment. We thought little bit of revenue so applications could explore alternative ways to generate revenue for ecosystem with right set of gamifications.
Again, controversy and drama continue to stop us from innovating further in this field or explore other gamification options.
We are builders and it is disheartening to constantly explain and fight these FUD and let go one of our favorite feature.
Fast forward today, we decided to remove content boosting because of these controversy and drama. We are here to serve every single stakeholder including users. Removing Points system from reward pool will allow it to be innovated further with other creative use-cases.
Going forward, our curators will continue their voluntary curation effort without anyone needing to use Points.
In conclusion of this experiment, we learned good, valuable and hard lessons and we plan to build Ecency bigger and better!
There will be no changes made for how Ecency Points are earned. Watch for new ways that you will be able to use your Points!

I absolutely love Ecency - and all that you stand for! It's very unfortunate that projects that encourage Hivians - is attacked. I dont understand why someone would ever see what Ecency does as negative. It is one of the most positive projects on the platform - it's always concerned with everyone growing together.
well - maybe that's why. some projects only want to have one-sided growth. and they attack anything that's not greedy like them. sad - but meh. this is the way of the world.
The only thing we can do is continue to support Ecency, through thick and thin.

I really don't know who these people are who are creating controversy and drama. I've always loved this Ecency Points feature and its uses. And that's not just because boosting provides something extra, but also because it incentivizes staying active on the Hive platform which should be the first important task for every user. So basically, you are giving points to people for doing things that will benefit them only.
I saw another community that benefits from the default 5% on posting. Content curation is secondary, they would think! On the other hand, there is Ecency which rewards users for being active which ultimately benefits us. And then with those points received as rewards, we can reach our posts to a larger audience with the use of boosting and promotion features.
So I can say that people who are creating controversy and drama are just jealous of you and want to bring you down by any means and I would like you not to let any negativity dominate you because you are doing so well. Just from now on you should also become a 5% default beneficiary. And from my side, I am starting it from today itself.
I would love it if the boosting feature is there, and even if it isn't, I know you will make something even better. Love Ecency!
If only this set of people who are against boosting know how it has encouraged many hivers to remain on the chain.
The ecency team are great and I believe they do come up with a unique way to use points. To me, this is far better than this discord engage- To engage directly on the Blockchain
Ecency will continue developing new features that will allow us all to do more on chain, rather than needing to use Discord.

It is a shame to see this use case for Ecency points disappear. Ecency has ran one of the best and most transparent curation programs on Hive. The collecting and using Ecency points on Hive as gamification has been really fun and encouraged the usage of Ecency.
I am looking forward to the new usecases for Ecency points and seeing Ecency grow further in new ways.

What is happening, the ecency points and boosts have been a motivating factor to us content creators, that's mostly why many hivers are always here creating their own contents, it's very valuable to us, why would some people distablise it?,
Anyway, I know the quality ability of our honourable leader @melinda010100 & her team has, I trust they will come out with what is far better than ecency points,
lets watch and see.

It has been my observation that many of the strongest voices attacking things like boosting, labeling it "vote buying", were among the people most abusing and benefiting from bitbots back in the day. Perhaps a sense of guilt motivates their current actions?
Anyway, I rarely used boosts for myself, but I often did for others. I didn't realize there was a room in the Discord for this. So if I visit the ecency discord, I can submit people to be boosted there?
Boosting with Points is being discontinued. New uses for using Points will be announced soon.

It is sad to hear. I don't think it was a bidbot because every time a curator first observed the content and only then he/she curated that. Well, everything happens for a good cause, let's hope for the best.

It's sad to see it go, I just started to use it recently, lol. I remember trying to figure out how to use boosting and then give up for a while before learning how to. I think when points are used and it's manually reviewed and still not guaranteed, why could it be seen exactly as vote buying. Anyway, it is what it is, it seems a nice team of curators is handling this so only way is forward right :)

I completely missed the drama. There have been many downvoting wars that drove away content creators. At the same time the whales have not been very good at supporting the projects that could elevate HIVE. DHF is hardly being utilized and I have seen many projects creators give up on many good developments because they could not get the funding. Ultimately its is HIVE that is loosing value.
IMO the best we can do is to keep building and curating the individuals and projects that have a good vision for the future and grow our stake so that we eventually become the driving force behind HIVE.

Drama is something very typical of our human relationships, we are social beings, and we tend to have differences of opinion that can cause very opposing positions.
I was attracted to Ecency's points system, but I know it's like putting the post on a review list board. If the post is attractive, it may be voted on by a volunteer curator, but boosting it did not imply that there would necessarily be a vote.
The unfortunate thing is that there are always people who fall into the extreme of being Trolls, they are not going to be happy with anything that is done. They are a type of people who hate things to move forward in peace, and they make all the noise and damage they can to destroy good initiatives.
Say goodbye to boost, your service is appreciated. There is still the possibility of using the points to promote the publication :) At least until the haters do not think of attacking the system of promoting the posts as well.

Well I may not know what controversy people are putting across, but if there is a frontend I love so much on hive is the ecency, it's simple and easy to understand. I have always given my support to this great community, I have tried my best to unboard newbies in to use this frontend and seeing this new is really sad I must say. But I will like to see the options provided before drawing conclusions

I think it's completely wrong to give in to this because Hive is a DECENTRALIZED platform. For me this means that everyone can have and defend his opinion (also the people that think it's wrong to reward and even "sell" votes) but nobody should set rules and tell the others how they should use the platform and the possibilities it's offering.
These possibilities are not a question of this is right and this is wrong and certainly not "you shouldn't do this or that"! This is web 3.0 and this is DECENTRALIZATION, people... It's a kind of anarchy but this is what it is. @ecency Thank you for the great time and I hate to see the boosting function go.

Good point and angle, we are working on more use cases. In future if we find a way to not use common reward pool or have our own token, we will bring it back for sure. Reward pool on Hive belongs to entire community and we have to address concerns of everyone. Plus, this is getting us out of comfort zone to innovate more. Appreciate your support and encouragement.
