Words

So, I had had a crazy day today. All the things that had gone wrong went wrong. Everything that was supposed to be a breeze took us almost all morning to do.

Have you ever heard of this saying?

sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”

I used to believe this until today. Upon hearing those unkind words from a very unhappy person, I personally felt defeated, stressed, tired. The tasks that would have been easy became complicated and difficult. All because of those unkind words.

This had been a personal learning experience for me. What I thought was my way to ventilate my concerns and hurts might in some ways hurt the people who hear me. What I think would have been done in order to be heard might not actually exacerbate a situation.

I do not advocate silence especially in a very oppressive situation. But, I certainly believe that in choosing those right words, things gets better, clearer,lighter.
